APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES
RECOMMENDATION:
Conduct appointment process for: Arts and Culture Commission, Community Services
Commission, General Plan Committee, Library Board, Parks Commission, and
Transportation and Parking Commission.
2. Direct Clerk Administrator to continue to advertise any unfilled positions.
3. Appoint David Stonesifer as the Arts Professional member on the Arts and Culture
Commission.
DISCUSSION:
On January 31, 2011, Council will interview applicants for vacant board, commission, and
committee positions (hereafter, "commissions "). Attached is a list of commissions, the number
of vacancies, and names of applicants. In order to complete the interview process prior to the
start of the Town Council meeting, it is recominended that Council plan for a maximum of 5
minutes for each interview.
Jonathan Knowles will be out of Town and has requested Council consideration for re-
appointment to the Arts and Culture Commission. A letter expressing his request for
consideration is attached to his application. Community Services Commissioner Sue Gomez, has
a conflicting appointment and has requested to be interviewed at the end of the interview session.
Council's past practice has been to consider incumbents for re- appointment when they are not
able to attend the interviews.

DISCUSSIONS — Continued
Following the interviews, during the business meeting starting at 7:00 p.m., the Council may
appoint applicants to the vacant positions with a majority vote. Upon completion of the
appointment process, the Clerk Department will continue to accept applications for vacant
positions. The next scheduled recruitment is set for August, 2011 with interviews to be held in
early November, 2011. If the Clerk Department receives enough applications prior to August,
2011, Council may choose to schedule an additional interview date prior the August, 2011
recruitment.
On September 21, 2009, Council adopted Resolution 2009 -103 amending the Public Arts
Selection Policy and thereby dissolving the Arts Selection Panel. Included in the resolution was
the appointment of an Arts Professional as one of the members of the Arts and Culture
Commission. The Arts and Culture Commission Chair, Colleen Wilcox, recommends that David
Stonesifer be appointed as the Arts Professional on the Arts and Culture Commission.
CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that Council appoint applicants to fill vacant Town commission positions,
direct Clerk Administrator to continue to advertise any unfilled positions, and to appoint David
Stonesifer as the Arts Professional member on the Arts and Culture Commission.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended action.
