Subject: Support Teacher Housing- Letter of Support
Dear Members of the Los Gatos Town Council,
I would like to express my strong support of Sarah Chaffin and her teaching housing project. Her aspirations
to make affordable teacher housing is something I wholeheartedly support.
I attended the last town hall meeting in February over the property at Dittos Lane where both Habitat for
Humanity and Sarah Chaffin presented their plans for affordable housing. While, I appreciate Habitat for
Humanity, they clearly stated that they would need to build 12 units on this small property to make the project
cost-effective. Sarah's footprint for her teacher housing project is smaller (4 units) and neighborhood friendly.
I am a resident of Los Gatos and I support Sarah for two reasons. First, she is my neighbor and I would love to
support a local project by someone who cares about our community. Second, I love her vision for making teacher
housing affordable. I have two children attending elementary school at Daves Avenue. Many of my daughter’s
teachers commute long distances to work at Daves Avenue. Her fourth grade teacher Ms. Clark drives from San
Francisco daily, and her third grade teacher commutes from Scotts Valley. Another exceptional teacher left the
school last year to be able to afford to buy a home, so the family purchased a home and moved to the Sacramento
region.
I cannot express enough how wonderful all of the Daves Avenue teachers have been and these are the women and
men that you want to have as neighbors and see around town. I would love to see this project find its start here in
Los Gatos and spread to other cities in the Bay Area.
Sincerely,
Heather Ishak
