Thi s Jetter requests the Los Gatos Town Counci l to help engineer a compromise between the developer and the Alberto Way n e ighb ors. I include an extract from this letter s tating the req uest: 1) "Remand th e project back to the Planning Commission with direction to requi re the developer to submit rough sketches of two redesigns; this is what the Planning Comm ission requested on 1/10/2018. A. A project that preserves the mountain view on the north side of the site by making part of the building on e story. The square feet and the wi dth of the view corridor t o be included. B. A project that increases the setback on the north s id e of the site to 80 feet by removing the part of the proposed building that obstructs the view. The square footage of the building to be included. The Planning Commission would consider both options and approve one. 2) Approve the project with conditions-preserve the existing view on the north side of the site and reduce the building to 64,000 s qu a re feet An d require that the revisions be brought back to t h e Council for review." As a member of the Board of Los Ga t os Commons and as a resident, the purpose of my letter is to express my firm support of the above request. The Home Owners have thoughtfully discussed what they believe to be very fair trade off conside ration options as described above. These community folks have worked hard to communicate ideas and compassion for retaining t h e attractiveness of Los Gatos yet being fair with the Developers project requests. As you ponder and co nsider your individual votes for or against our request for help to ach ieve a fair resolution, remember the neighborhood and what it m eans to those who live h ere. A majority of residents are elderly and re ly on the peaceful and comforti ng atmosp here of t h e views and beautiful landscapi ng, and safe walkways. For many, their on ly outdoo r activity is just being outdoors and enjoying the wonders of nature and v isiting with their friends . Studies have shown that such outdoor environments are very essential to a healthy life. Our residents are very worried that their present environment will be eliminated. Once again please listen to the voices of Alberto Way residents and help us with a judgment decision in favor of either option 1) or 2). I grew up in LG and attended Saratoga h ig h school. For me , Lo s Gatos is home and ha s always been home. The propose d project at 405 Alberto Way is concerning on several fronts. The project will ha ve significant -and negative -side effects to our vi ews, traffic, emergency services, air quality, noise , and parking. I'm not opposed to a development on the corner of Alberto and hwy 9, but it shou ld be within reason (ie m or e simi lar to what's located on the corner today) What makes Los Gatos great is it's small town feel. Keep it that way! Ask yourselves -if you lived on Alberto Way would you want this proposed project on your corner? Please represent the people of your town and say "NO". After your thoughtful review I hope you agree with me that the 401 Alberto Way project should be approved at the March 20 meeting. I want to thank you for your diligent work on this and your suggestions that have made the project better as it moved through the review process. In its current form, this project will enhance the Los Gatos community due to its many positive characteristics among which are the following: • It is an attractive LEED-certified replacement for a 50 year old outmoded office building. • It fits nicely with the look and feel of Los Gatos. • It can provide needed lo ca l business and employment opportunities. • It adds to the tax revenue base of Los Gatos. • It comp lies with the Los Gatos building standa rds . • It is makes excellent use of the location near both on and off freeway ramps. Claire Ferguson <m.claireferguson@yahoo .com > Saturday, March 17, 2018 11 :08 PM Jennifer Armer Kudos to Los Gatos Planning Commission The last two meetings of the Planning Commission have proved once again the value of the Planning Commiss ion as an arm of the Town Council. The process of evaluating all the facts and concerns of the developer and the neighborhood residents was done thoroughly and carefully. Given the original September 2017 request by the Planning Commission to reduce the size of the project by 1/3 (from 93,000 ft2 to 63,000 ft2), the Planning Commission carefully reviewed the 74,000 ft2 reduction offered by the developer in January and recommended design modifications to stay compatible with the quiet residential neighborhood and protect views of the Santa Cruz Mountains which are a highlight of the neighborhood . When the developer re fused these recommendations, the Planning Commission in February unanimously rejected the developer's plan citing traffic, building size and design and loss of views. The residents are extremely grateful to the Planning Commission for their thorough process and consideration which re su lted in this appropriate conclusion. Sin ce rely, Claire Fergu so n
