street parking
Hi
We have heard about some street marking (red) within a few feet of driveways this would be good as during
the school year we can not see to enter los gatos blvd because people park too close to or in our driveway.
Possibly this could be a first step before going to permits. it also would be good if they inforced existing
parking laws Thank You Gary&Toby Gibson

High school parking
Dear council members,
I do understand the neighborhood desire to eliminate high school parking on their streets.
I do not think these streets should become permit only parking until a solution to this parking problem is in
place.
Where are these students to park? They will then need to park on the streets outside this radius. I have no
objection to children doing some walking but it seems short sighted to just push the problem out to other
neighbors.
What is the solution? ls more parking being made?
Sincerely
- Susie Hotelling

Parking on Loma Alta
Hi
Thank you
Michael Hammer
1
I am a resident of Loma Alta Avenue and would like to know exactly which parts these permits would effect,
and what rights residents have for parking.
I do not want in front of my house to be a 90 minute zone, and we do not currently have high school kids
parking this far up.

I sent this to the Town Manager, but thought I should also send to you since you will be the ultimate

Thank you for caring about ALL of your residents!

I find it preposterous that the Town would continue to add g0 Minute parking to the streets adjacent to
our High School. Here are my top 10 reasons against this proposition:
'l . The High School has been around since 1908. According to the long established legal doctrine
of caveat emptor ("buyer beware"), any living resident who bought their home knew of their proximity
to the High School and should have known or foreseen that parking could become an issue.
2. There are plenty of residents who park their cars along those streets. Would they be exempt
from the 90 minute rule? How would you propose to enforce this?
3. The Town has fostered out of control growth in population by allowing planned developments
such as Bluebird Lane, Laurel Mews, and Lester Square, combined with the subdivision of lots, as
well as remodels and new construction all over Town (not to mention the forthcoming North 40
pro, lect). Common sense leads one to realize that the ovenruhelming majority of people who build,
remodel, or buy new construction in Los Gatos have or will have families that will matriculate through
our schools. The desirability of ourTown is fist in glove with the reputation of our schools. Town has
a duty to understand the impact of its housing decisions on residents of all ages and to plan
accordingly.
4. lmplementing 90 minute parking on the streets immediately surrounding the High School
amounts to discrimination against a class of residents ... our teenagers.
6. On Loma Alta, all of the houses that I see have driveways, and I am sure this is the case with the
other streets, but I am less familiar with them.
7. The families who chose to remove their driveways or garages to increase their home square
footage should not complain when parking is not available at their curbside.
5. I drop my daughter off and pick her up on Loma Alta every school day and I NEVER have an
issue finding a place to park on Loma Alta.
1
8. We are talking about an inconvenience to the neighborhoods 5 days a week during the hours of
8amto2:1spm, when it is broad daylight. Most people will be working or out oftheir homes during at
least a portion of those hours.
9. There are known ebbs and flows in school populations. We are at the highest height at the
moment, but enrollments at the elementary schools are ebbing, so this is a cycle that we are all
having to live with.
10. These are our kids. They are residents. Legally they have to attend school. Many live too far
away to walk or bike and have to park somewhere. Where would you suggest they do that and not
have to wake up an extra half hour eady, which might cause them to be less alert behind the
wheel?
lf a resident has a bona fide need for immediate curbside parking 24 hours a day such as a disability,
then they should work with the Town to get a handicapped space. Failing that, given all ofthe
foregoing, I am asking the Town to not koMow lo the vocal minority who do not have community
spirit. JUST SAY NO!!
Thank you,

Oppose Comprehensive Permit Parking Program - Item 3
Hello Council
I am a Los Gatos resident.
I am a home owner who pays taxes
I shop and spend a large portion of my discretionary budget at local Los Gatos establishments to support our community
and for convenience.
lstrongly oppose expanding the permit area around the High School.
It is descrimintory to our students that struggle with parking as it is.
I want our students to value and care about our community and making parking to attend school more difficult will only
perpetuate our loss ofyouth in our area.
As a real estate professional, the neighboring home values have seen incredible equity growth for decades in large part
due to the value of the high school and its education standards.
The trade off is the traffic and parking the students bring.
These owners benefit from our students hard work and teachers dedication.
Do not punish them. This is a tax on families with students.
I would love to see the revenue from tickets based on high school parking challenges as it is. lt is shamefulthat our
students without options for public transportation, busing service, or other alternatives struggle so greatly with
parking.
My son specifically would arrive 45 minutes prior to school to get parking. This is not an acceptable situation and will
promote other issues within the community.
There are unintended consequences to this change.
I implore you to reconsider making it more difficult and resist the pressure from a minority of home owners that have
had full disclosure over and over and over about traffic and parking.
Our students are important citizens and their position in this should be considered fairly and this change should not
move forward.

AGAINST Neighborhood Parking Permits near the High School
To whom it may concern,
I am saddened and concerned about the efforts to add 2 hour parking to all areas within U2 mile of Los Gatos High
School. We have lived on Loma Alta for 10 years and moved here specifically to send our kids to Los Gatos Schools.
I am shocked that my surrounding neighbors find it so inconveinent for kids to park in front of their homes for a few
hours a day Monday-Friday 8:00am-2:15pm...never including weekends, holidays, or summer.
Lets be real...if a spot is so sacred wouldn't you most likely be parked in it at 7:30am so high school kids can't park there
anyway?
Or leave your home at 7:00am to go to work, and come home at spm and all the High school students are gone?
Other thoughts:
-most residents have a two car garage
-most residents have a driveway to park in
- Lower Loma Alta and Johnson have alleyways
-Perhaps some remodeled and made the choice to give up driveways or a garage...is that our kids fault?
Are we becoming a bunch of cranky folks who care nothing for our youth?
As it is, many of my friends kids leave home at 7:20am to even be able to find a spot to park at the high school (school
sta rts at 8:15)
It is so easy to blame the high school for this problem, and perhaps they are somewhat at fault. However, we as a town
have grown beyond our capacity. Think Bluebird lane and Laurel Mews. Geez Louise lets not forget the possibility of
North 40 project.
Remember Newton's third law
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
1
By taking away more parking options from the kids you are punishing THE KIDS and their parents who work hard and pay
big taxes to live here. This is not a solution, this is just pushing out the problem to other streets and residents.
I am also very concerned that many of the residents in this town don't even know this is up for discussion, many of who
will be directly affected. Have you sent communication to the elementary schools? How about Fisher? How about the
families who live in the mountains? I myself never received a written letter about this issue and I live on Loma Alta.
Please Please Please reconsider this 2 hour parking nonsense. A vote for it is a vote against our Kids, Community, and
future.
Sincerely,
Christina Stuhlmuller

Agenda item #8 LG council meeting March 5th,2018 Comprehensive Permit Parking
Program for the Area of Northeasterly of Los Gatos
Town Council,
We have been residents on Loma Alta Avenue for 17 years and on Villa Avenue for 3 years prior. We are NOT
in favor of an approval to the comprehensive permit parking program expansion to Loma Alta Avenue and
other Northeasterly streets.
For safety reasons we understand why Alpine Avenue needs the permit parking, however, we would like
council to discontinue the Neighborhood Parking Plan on all other streets.
We, and many others, welcome our local kids in the neighborhood. We want to be part of a long term
solution for all the community members, not just making parking another neighbors problem.
Respectfu lly,
Kevin and Nicolette Kelly
1
The staff recommends to "protect" our neighborhoods within a half mile radius of LGHS by issuing more
permits and restrictions. Approving the motion would simply affect the next closest neighborhood such as
Harding Ave., High St., Vista Del Monte, etc. Everyone in the 1/2 mile radius of the high school knew what they
were getting into when they moved into their home. The town has approved many new developments that
have brought more and more kids to our schools. This is not just the high school's problem, nor is it one that
we should pass on to other residents further out.

Mayor and Council members,
I am writlng to provide input for the Tuesday 3/6 Town Council meeting aBenda regarding neighborhood parking in the
area northeast of Los Gatos High School. I have attended and spoken at many meetings regarding this topic asking for
Loma Alta Avenue to be included in an expanded permit parking plan. Unfortunately, lwas unable to change my plans to
be able to attend this meeting as I just found out about it today and I know is a very important meeting for this effort.
Although I can not attend, I hope this email will hold the same weight as if I was in attendance. I want to again ask the
Council members for their support in either 1) removing permit parking from all streets surrounding the high school or
2) add permit parking to Loma Alta.

Thank you for the continue time and effort you all give to our great town!

High school student parking
ln case I don't make it to the meeting on Tuesday, I want to present my input about this disruptive parking
situation cause by the Los Gatos high school students parking on Stacia street.
I live at 12 Stacia street between Los Gatos blvd and Wheeler street. Parking spaces for the residents is nearly
non existence. These students start to park at 7:30am and continue to do so until nearly 8am. Not only then
do they monopolize the parking spots until the end of their day, when they arrive early to grab a spot they
play their car radio at such a volume that I can hear the music in my back bedroom.
lf that isn't bad enough, they monopolize the parking spaces so guests that visit have no parking available.
Same for service vehicles. Then you have the crowd of students roaming Stacia street in between cars that just
dropped their children off and circling around to avoid Los Gatos blvd.
Two years ago I was in a wheel chair for five months. lf this situation had existed then, I would have had no
easy access to my path to the entrance to my home. My health is such that this disability could recur at any
time. Then lwould have to go through the expense of having a handicap parking space put in.
Please lnstitute the same parking space restrictions as done in my neighborhood.
Regards,
Joseph Poppo

Thank you.

More high school parking limitations... version 2 (please delete prior unproofed)
Hello Town,
I am firmly against more restrictions on parking in neighborhoods around the high school.
My points:
* Most importantly, these are public streets. We cannot let homeowners bear right to the public street in front of their
home.
* Homeowners largely have driveways. That is where they are "entitled" to park. lf they have been lived in their homes
for decades, they were aware, when they purchased, they might have to park their buggies on the street. So can
others.
*This motion is a completely focused, not even thinly disguised, discrimination against the school kids. These kids are in
school 8am-12 or 8am-2:10 maybe 5 days a week and not even 1/2 a year considering vacations.
* lt is obvious the overcrowding at this school is the root cause. There are more drivers than slots. And kids need to
drive. Distance, weather, sports, activlties, books, etc....require a car. There are still those who insist Los Gatos students
should be the ONLY kids in the Bay Area required to walk or ride a bike? Because neighbors don't want a car parked in
front of their house for 6 hours?
* This movement - continuing to push parking deeper into other neighborhoods - is not a solutlon. lt is a punishment.
*The town needs to acknowledge responslbility for the growth, with all of the new developments, and needs to share in
the solution. lt is not acceptable to bend instantly to the complaining stay-at-home home owners.
Don't these homeowners actually rea lize they are enjoying the increased property value of their home, because of the
reputation ofthe wonderful high school!??l
Thank You,
Mary Leonardis

Please, Town of Los Gatos, help the school find a long term solution. Quit punishing the kids... who need to focus on
school... not worry about where to park every day.

Neighborhood Parking around the High School
Los Gatos Town Council Members and Town Manager,
As a Los Gatos resident who will be directly affected by the proposed changes to the parking plan near Los
Gatos High School I would like to give you my feedback on the proposed changes.
I am totally against putting a timed parking limit on the residential streets around the High School. I live at 24
Loma Alta Ave and have resided at that address for 31years.
The limited time parking during High School hours does not fix the parking problem it only moves the problem
a little bit farther down the street(s). lnstead of limiting parking for seleded streets you need to do something
to fix this situation for the long term. Otherwise, you, or your successors, will be dealing with it again in the
next few years with the residents just a little bit farther from the High School.
When I move to Loma Alta Ave 31 years ago I knew that the High School was located just a few blocks from my
home. I knew that I would be affected by the students and events at the High School. I would suggest to you
that all of the residents of the affected area of the proposed plan also knew this. Now they come to you
because of their short sightedness to realize that the High School would affect the parking in front of their
homes on the public streets.
The Town and the High School need to fix the problem by finding adequate parking and/or suitable public
transportation for the High School students.
Every day that the High School is in session the students park directly in front of my home. They arrive about
7:30 each morning and leave about 2:30 in the afternoon. They are NOT a problem. They park legally, are not
rowdy or disrespectful to the neighborhood, and they rarely leave any litter behind.
Kevin Pringle
24 Loma Alta Ave

lf you are going to succumb to the few residents who don't like people parking in front oftheir homes for a
few hours during the day, where will this end? How about the people who attend functions at the History Club
on weekends or evenings, those who park in front of my home to attend events at the High School in the
evenings and weekends, or those who attend the summer weekend concert events on the Town Hall lawn?
Should we put a parking limit in so they wouldn't park in front of our homes?
Merely enacting a parking limit agains the High School students does not fix the problem. lt just moves the
problem a little bit farther down the road. Go back to your staff and the High School District and find a proper
longterm solution for this situation.

High school permit areas
Dear Town,
I am a resident at 178 Loma Alta Ave., and I am opposed to expanding the permit areas during the HS hours. lt
is disenfranchising our fellow Los Gatos residents who are not in walking distance to the school, especially if
there are no other solutions to the parking problems at the school. Moving the problem to other neighbors is
equally unfair. This also negates the benefits ofthe "late start" because students who live further away are
forced to leave earlier and earlier in order to get to school.
We need to support our students, and the town and HS need to work together to find adequate, accessible
parking or provide shuttle service to alleviate the need and associated traffic congestion.
My son is a Sophomore at the HS, and we are also a Hillbrook family, so we are well acquainted with the
success of traffic, parking and shuttle accommodations that help make Lis Gatos pleasant for all its residents.
Please do not expand the permit parking areas.
Best,
Allison Railo

LGHS High school parking restrictions in surrounding neighborhood
Good Morning;
I can't attend tonights meeting to voice my concerns on this topic so I was told I could send an email. My son attends
LGHS and it is truly one of the gems of Los Gatos. I would ask that you turn down the requesl to restrict parking to 2
hours in the surrounding neighborhoods as that will .iust push the kids further out into the neighborhoods and they will still
be walking through the areas that will be restricted. lt's naive to think that the kids will stop driving lo school, we were all
teenagers once and having the ability to drive is too precious to them...
My thoughts are with the exception of possibly a few homes, the high school was in it's location first so the homeowners
that are unhappy bought their homes knowing how close they were to the high school and how little parking there was for
the students (or at least they should have known) I lived on Nino Ave for 15 years and we knew exactly what we were
getting into when we bought our home three doors down from Van Meter and across the street from Fisher. I would have
never considered complaining about any of the traffic, parking in front of my house, kids, etc. because those wonderful
schools were there first! lt's like buying a home near the airport and then complaining about it.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best,

Was this an oversight?
Every surounding street was mentioned with the EXCEPTION of Pleasant Street. We're well within the half-mile

high school parking.
Please tell me this was an unintentional omission and will be corrected.
