1992-158-San Francisco Giants Major League Baseball Franchise Is An Important Regional Economic, Entertainment, And Cultural ResourceRESOLUTION 1992 -158 RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS WHEREAS, the San Francisco Giants major league baseball franchise is an important regional economic, entertainment, and cultural resource; and WHEREAS, the presence of the San Francisco Giants in the bay area generates over $30 million annually towards the regional economy; and WHEREAS, the transfer of the San Francisco Giants to Tampa Bay, Florida would have a negative impact on the bay area economy; and WHEREAS, there are investors interested in purchasing the Giants and keeping the franchise in the bay area provided they have adequate time to review the financial records of the franchise; and transfer; WHEREAS, there are attempts being made to build a new stadium; and WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Baseball has the authority to deny the THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos requests the Commissioner of Baseball use his legal authority to deny the transfer of the San Francisco Giants to Tampa Bay, Florida, until adequate time has been given for local investors to review the financial records of the Giants and present an offer to purchase the franchise.
