REMARKS:
After the initial staff report was distributed, staff received the following inquiries from
Councilmembers regarding the Community Grants Fiscal Year 2016/17 Funding Request Update.
Question #1: What is the "Los Gatos Community Concert Association" and what type of
events has it/does it plan to sponsor?
Answer: Los Gatos Community Concerts Association (http://www.lgcca.org/) has been offering a
professional performing art series of musical concerts for the past 68 years. They provide the
following events/programming:
A concert series of four musical performances at the Los Gatos High School Theatre on
four Sunday afternoons;
Subsidized ticket prices for senior citizens; and
Free encore performances, as available, to local community groups such as the non-mobile
residents of Los Gatos retirement communities and the students of Los Gatos High
School.

Question #2: What was the rationale for the ACC Evaluation Committee to distribute
funds as it did, e.g. $4,000 to Arts Commission, $7,000 to museum, and much less to Youth
Science and Concert Association? Who is on the Evaluation Committee?
Answer: With the exception of the recommended allocation to the Los Gatos Community Concert
Association who applied for a $1,000 grant and were recommended for $3,800, each of the other
three organizations who applied for funding were recommended for the amount of funding they
requested for FY 2016/17. The Committee considered increasing the recommended allocation for
each of the four agencies by $700; however, the Committee recommendation is to increase only
the Los Gatos Community Concert Association FY 2016/17 funding request with the intention
that the added revenue from the Town grant will assist the organization in expanding its outreach
to seniors in the community. The Commission members who participated on the FY 2016-17
ACC Evaluation Committee included Commissioners Rita Baum, Maureen Cappon-Javey, and
Tom Spilsbury.
Question #3: Do we know the intended use of the funds by each of the entities suggested for
grant funding as indicated in Attachment 2?
Answer: Yes. Each grant applicant is required to provide a community needs statement, a
program statement, and description of services for the direct services they propose to provide to
Town residents. In addition, the application requires demographic data, agency information, a
staff profile, and program budget information.
