RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
IMPLEMENTING THE CITIZENS OPTION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAM OF
1996 AND AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO EXECUTE THE SANTA
CLARA COUNTY SPECIALIZED ENFORCEMENT TEAM (SCCSET)
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
WHEREAS, Chapter 6.7 of Division 3 of Title 3 of the Government Code became
effective immediately with the Governor's approval of Assembly Bill 3229 on July 10, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Los Gatos is entitled to receive approximately $66,130 under
the terms of the Measure if specified requirements are met; and
WHEREAS, the State funding cannot be used to supplement current Town costs for law
enforcement and must be expended exclusively for front police services; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council did conduct the required public hearing on September 3,
1996 and considered the required written request from the Chief of Police; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council has considered the written request separate and apart from
the allocation of general funds for police services.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos,
County of Santa Clara, State of California, as follows:
1. The Town Manager is directed to establish a Supplemental Law Enforcement Services
Fund (SLESF) for receipt and disbursement of money received under the Citizens Option for
Public Safety Program of 1996.
2. The Town Manager is directed to promptly remit to the General Fund all funding
deposited in such SLESF fund for the partial cost of one new Police Officer position to be
assigned to the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team.
3. The Town Manager is directed to submit reports concerning the expenditure of SLESF
funds to the Santa Clara County Supplemental Law Enforcement Oversight Committee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los
Gatos, California, held on the 3rd day of September, 1996 by the following vote:
