MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
SUBJECT: WITHIN EXISTING ADOPTED FY 2015/16 OPERATING BUDGET,
AUTHORIZE THE TOWN MANAGER TO RESTORE, REALLOCATE,
RECLASSIFY, AND REALIGN POSITIONS AND SALARIES
October 5, 2015
Provided below are responses to Council inquiries for this agenda item.
1. Two of the cities used as comparison (Campbell and Gilroy) do not have an Assistant
Manager. How does that affect the salary comparison with Los Gatos? (i.e.,
comparing those two cities' manager cost versus your requested manager /assistant
manager expense ?)
If a city does not have an Assistant Town/City Manager position then it is not considered for
positon comparison purposes. For presentation to Council, all similar local communities were
used as it is the Town's history to benchmark against these agencies for salary studies. At the
time of the survey, neither Gilroy nor Campbell had the position of Assistant City Manager and
to staffs knowledge currently do not have a comparable positon.
In July 2015, in lieu of an Assistant City Manager, the City of Campbell reclassified an Assistant
to the City Manager to a Deputy City Manager. The Deputy City Manager position does not
share equivalent roles and responsibilities that are assigned to the Town's Assistant Town
Manager, rather is equivalent to the Town's Assistant to the Town Manager position.
