LIMITS ON CERTAIN STREETS
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt Ordinance that was introduced at the Town Council meeting of November
4, 2013.
2. Instruct the Clerk Administrator to either:
a. Publish the Ordinance within 15 days after adoption; or
b. Publish a summary no more than 15 days after adoption (if summary
published before adoption.)
BACKGROUND:
On November 4, 2013, Council introduced Attachment 1, which amends section
15.30.235 of the Town Code establishing speed limits on certain streets. The Council
also directed staff to study two streets for possible future speed limit changes: continuing
the 25 mph limit on Los Gatos Blvd. between Roberts Rd. and Blossom Hill Rd. and
continuing the 20 mph limit on University between Mullen and Saratoga/Los Gatos Road
(Highway 9) and possibly up to Blossom Hill Road.
DISCUSSION:
If Council adopts the Ordinance at its November 18, 2013 meeting, it would go into
effect 30 days after adoption.
CONCLUSION:
Staff recommends that the Town Council adopt an Ordinance of the Town of Los Gatos
amending section 15.30.235 of the Los Gatos Town Code for establishing speed limits on
certain streets.

ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
AMENDING SECTION 15.30.235 OF THE LOS GATOS
TOWN CODE FOR ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS
ON CERTAIN STREETS
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION I
Section 15.30.235, of the Town Code is hereby repealed in its entirety.
SECTION II
Based on an engineering and traffic survey, Section 15.30.235 of the Los Gatos Town Code is
hereby enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 15.30.235. Establishing speed limits on certain streets.
It is hereby determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey that the
following speed limits will facilitate the orderly movement of vehicular traffic and are
reasonable and safe and are declared the prima facie speed limits and shall be effective when
appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon the street.

SECTION III
In the event that any part of this ordinance is held to be invalid, the invalid part or parts
shall be severed from the remaining portions which shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION IV
Pursuant to Section 15096 of the CEQA Guidelines, the Town of Los Gatos acts as a
responsible agency for adoption of this ordinance within the Town of Los Gatos. The Town
Council makes the following findings: The amendment to the Town Code is not a project under
CEQA and therefore, does not require any action under CEQA.
SECTION V
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos on November 4, 2013 and adopted by the following vote as an ordinance of the Town
of Los Gatos at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos on November
18, 2013. This ordinance takes effect 30 days after it is adopted.
