SUBJECT: PPW JOB NO. All-002 —TREE PRUNING REMOVAL CONTRACT
AUTHORIZE TOWN MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE
AGREEMENT WITH WEST COAST ARBORISTS, INC. FOR A TWO -YEAR
PERIOD TO PROVIDE TREE TRIMMING AND REMOVAL SERVICES IN
THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the Town Manager to execute an Amendment to the Agreement with West Coast
Arborists, Inc. for a two -year period to provide tree trimming and removal services in the Town
of Los Gatos.
BACKGROUND
The adopted FY 2012/13 Operating Budget designates $100,000 for tree trimming in order to
perform annual contractual tree trimming and associated services, including tree removal and
stump grinding.
The Town of Los Gatos has utilized contractual tree trimming and removal services for the past
several years. Staff reviews such maintenance contracts annually to ensure that the services
provided are being performed satisfactorily, competitively priced, and continue to meet Town's
expectations and contract terms.
DISCUSSION
In August 15, 2011, the Town executed an agreement for tree trimming and removal services
with West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA). WCA provides comparable maintenance service for
numerous municipalities throughout the Bay Area including the cities of Campbell and San Jose.

The agreement outlined specific language pertaining to the term of the agreement. The
agreement allows for two additional one -year renewal periods, each commencing on July 1st and
continuing until midnight June 30 of each fiscal year provided that the Town provides an
annual written notice of intent to extend the contact.
West Coast Arborists, Inc. has forged a productive and cohesive working relationship with Town
staff, and has agreed in written form to perform the same services, as outlined in their original
agreement, at no additional cost to the Town of Los Gatos. The annual maintenance cost for this
service is $100,000.
CONCLUSION
Staff is satisfied with the performance of West Coast Arborists, Inc. and recommends that the
Town Council authorize the Town Manager to execute an amendment to the contract agreement
with West Coast Arborists, Inc. for a period of two years to provide tree trimming and removal
services in the Town of Los Gatos.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The project is Categorically Exempt pursuant to Sections 15301(c), 15303(e) and 15304(b) of the
State CEQA guidelines.
FISCAL IMPACT
The annual program cost for tree trimming and removal services is $100,000 and will be funded
through the adopted FY 2012/13 Operating Budget.
