PARKING LOT LIGHT MAINTENANCE SERVICES WITH REPUBLIC ITS
INC.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the Town Manager to execute an agreement for traffic signal, street light, tree light,
parks and parking lot light maintenance services with Republic ITS Inc.
BACKGROUND
For the past several years, the Town of Los Gatos has been using contractors to provide
maintenance and repair of the traffic signal and street light facilities. Staff reviews such
maintenance contracts annually to ensure the services provided are satisfactory and meet the
Town's expectations, contract terms, and service requirements. The Town policy requires that
contractor service contracts periodically go through a process of re- bidding to ensure quality
service and competitive pricing from other vendors for the services the Town requires.
DISCUSSION
Staff prepared a Request for Proposals for traffic signal and street light maintenance and repair
services. The scope of work includes: traffic signal and street light, tree lights, and parks and
parking lot lights maintenance services.
In response to this Request for Proposal, the Town received three (3) proposals from the
following contractors:
• Republic ITS, Inc. $ 77,225.40
• Calwest Electric, Inc. $ 94,806.00
• AEGIS, Inc. $144,719.88

Town staff reviewed the proposals and recommends that Republic ITS, Inc. be awarded the
maintenance contract due to their ability to provide a wide range of maintenance resources to the
Town, both during normal operations and during emergencies and their overall cost which is
substantially less than the other contractors.
Republic ITS Inc. is very familiar with the Town and its traffic signal and street light system, and
staff is satisfied with their service and response. This contractor has been performing the traffic
signal and street light maintenance services for the Town since 2002.
CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the Town Council authorize the Town Manager to execute a maintenance
services contract for two years with Republic ITS Inc.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The project is Categorically Exempt pursuant to Sections 15301 (c), 15303(e) and 15304(b) of
the State CEQA guidelines.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds are available in the adopted FY 2012/13 Operating Budget for this agreement.

Dear Mr. Pu,
On behalf of Republic US, I wish to express our interest in continuing to perform the Town's maintenance
activities associated with the Town's traffic signals, street lighting, Tree lighting, and parking lot lighting.
Republic ITS will provide maintenance and repair of street lights, downtown tree lights, park/parking lot
lights and traffic signal equipment in accordance with the contract specifications and agreed upon
maintenance and repair schedule by duly trained and qualif°ted personnel, We shall continue to provide a
2:4 -hour service, 7 days per week, for taking calls, for reported inoperable signals .and lighting, and
emergency response service.
One 'of Republic's primary focuses is Safety while on he job and safety for the public while performing
our duties, While working, our crews shall provide traffic control., lane closures, sidewalk closure and/or
detours that conform to the State and Town :requirements in order to ,protect the citizens and motoring
public in the Town. During emergency conditions, Republic ITS and all our employees shall assure full
cooperation with the Town of Los Gatos,
Below is a summary of the maintenance duties we shall .perform for the Town through our services and as
described in the recent Request .for.Proposal:
Street Lights
Republic ITS will maintain all street lights (including street lighting, and intersection safety lighting)
owned by the Town in an operable and safe condition. Respond to call outs for outage and any unsafe
or inoperable condition. Perform periodical night check along major streets to locate outages and
schedule repairs.
Downtown Tree L,iahts
Maintain the downtown tree lights along Santa Cruz Avenue, Main Street, and all around Town Plaza
in an operable and safe condition. Perform periodical night check and respond to call outs for outage
and any unsafe or inoperable condition,

signs; a hydraulic bucket capable of .reaching a height of 40 feet from the roadway surface, proper
lighting for illuminating the work area at :night; necessary computer laptop for pirograrmniaxg,
maintenance and testing of traffic •signal controllers and various equipment.
24 -Hour Setryiceftpgnse
Republic ITS will continue to promde a .24 -hour phone service for taking calls for .reported inoperable
signals and lighting. We shall leg -all calls that occur on our tracking system in order to perform -any
repairs needed as well as provide detailed documeaitation for the Town. We shall respond to call outs,
inspect, verify, identify problems, sand perform necessary repair per the contract requirements.
