AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING A STRUCTURE AS
HISTORICALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
The following structure is hereby designated historically and
culturally significant:
HD -76 -5 Mountain Spring Pumping Station,
Terminus of Bean Avenue
A detailed description of the designated structure, the characteristics
which justify designation, and a map showing the location and delineation of
the historic structure, are part of this ordinance.
SECTION 2.
The property listed is designated to be historic, architectural, or
aesthetic significance for the reasons listed below.
A. Property: Mountain Spring Pumping Station, terminus of Bean Avenue
B. Historic Designation No.: HD -76 -5
C. Description of Designation: Structure
D. Description of characteristics which justify designation:
The Pumping Station is a one -story brick building with arched
windows and has been kept ZargeZy in original condition.
The Mountain Spring Water Company was granted rights to supply
water and Lay pipes on May 18, 1889. The company was owned
by Dr. R. B. Gober, President, with John Bean and D. C. Crummey
as the principaZ stockhoZder. The company built a reservoir
at the end of Bean Avenue and was the Largest suppZier of
water to Los Gatos before the coming of San Jose Water Works.
E. Description of particular features that should be preserved in
addition to items covered under section 4.86.120:
None
SECTION 3.
The Town Clerk shall attest to the adoption of this ordinance.
This ordinance shall be published once in the Los Gatos Times - Saratoga
Observer, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in
the Town of Los Gatos within fifteen (15) days of its final passage and
this ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days following its final
passage.
The above and foregoing ordinance was duly and regularly introduced
at a meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos held on the
6th day of June , 1977.
PASSED AND ADOPTED as an ordinance of the Town of Los Gatos, California,
at a regular meeting of the Town Council held on the 20th day of
June , 1977, by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBER Ruth Cannon, Mar B. DiDuca, Mardi
Gualtieri, John B . Lochner and Albert B. Smith
