ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS ADOPTING BY
REFERENCE WITH MODIFICATIONS, OF 1982 EDITIONS
OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, UNIFORM MECHANICAL
CODE, UNIFORM HOUSING CODE, UNIFORM CODE FOR THE
ABATEMENT OF DANGEROUS BUILDING AND UNIFORM
PLUMBING CODE
The Town Council of Los Gatos hereby ORDAINS:
SECTION 1.
Section 7.04.030 of Article IV, Chapter 7 is repealed.
SECTION 2.
Section 7.02.010 of the Town Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 7.02.010 Uniform Building Code adoption
The Uniform Building Code, 1982 Edition, with Appendix Chapters 7
Part I, 11, 32, 35, 49, 55, 57 and 70 with modifications and omissions
provided in Sections 7.02.020 through 7.02.040 of this article, is adopted
by reference.

Section 7.020.020 of the Town Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 7.020.020. Sections deleted
Each of the following sections of Uniform Building Code is hereby
deleted: 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 301
302, 303, 304, 305, 306, and 307, respectively.
SECTION 4
Section 7.03.010 of the Town Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 7.03.010 Adoption by reference of the Uniform Housing Code
The Uniform Housing Code, 1982 Edition, with omissions and modifications
provided in Section 7.03.015 through 7.03.020 of this article is adopted
by reference.
SECTION 5.
Section 7.07.010 of the Town Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Adoption
The Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, 1982
Edition with modifications and omissions provided in Sections 7.07.015

SECTION 6
Section 7.08.010 of the Town Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Adoption
The Uniform Mechanical Code, 1982 Edition, with Appendix Chapters
A, B, and C, with modifications and omissions. provided in Sections
7.08.015 through 7.08.020 of this article is adopted by reference.

Section 7.04.010 of Chapter 7 is amended to read:
Sec. 7.04.010 Uniform Plumbing Code Adoption
The Uniform Plumbing Code, 1982 Edition, with Appendix Chapters A,
B, D, and E with modifications and omissions provided in sections 7.04.0 15
through section 7.04.060 of this article, is adopted by reference.
Section 7.04.015 of Chapter 7 is amended to read:
Sec. 7.04.015 Installation Standards
The Uniform Plumbing Code Installation Stardards, 1982 Edition, is
adopted by reference.
Section 7.04.050 of Chapter 7 is added to read:
Sec. 7.04.050 Materials
Section 401 of the Uniform Plumbing Code is amended to read:
(a) Drainage pipe shall be cast iron, galvanized steel, galvanized
wrought iron, lead, copper, brass,`ABS, PVC or other approved materials
having a smooth and uniform bore, except: 1. That no galvanized
wrought iron or galvanized steel pipe shall be used underground and
shall be kept at least six (6) inches (152.4MM) above ground. 2.
ABS or PVC installations limited to residential construction, not more
than two (2) stories i -n height.
(b) Drainage fittings shall be of cast iron, malleable iron, lead,
brass, copper, ABS, PVC or other approved materials having a smooth
interior waterway of the same diameter as the piping served and all such
fittings shall conform to the type of pipe used.
1. Fittings on screwed pipe shall be of the recessed drainage
type. Burred ends shall be reamed to the full bore of the pipe.
2. The threads of drainage fittings shall be tapped so as to allow
one fourth (1/4) inch per foot (20.9 mm /m) grade.
Section 7.04.055 of Chapter 7 is added to read:
Sec. 7.04.055 Materials
Section 503 of the Uniform Plumbing Code is amended to read:
(a) Vent pipe shall be cast iron, galvanized steel, galvanized wrought
iron, lead, copper, brass, ABS, PVC or other approved materials; except:
1. That no galvanized wrought iron or galvanized steel pipe shall be
used underground and shall be kept at least six (6) inches (152.4 mm)
above ground. 2. ABS or PVC installations limited to residential
construction, not more than two (2) stories in height.
(b) Vent fittings shall be cast iron, galvanized malleable iron or
galvanized steel, lead, copper, brass, ABS, PVC, or other approved materials,
except that no galvanized malleable iron or galvanized steel fittings
shall be used underground and shall be kept at least six (6) inches
(152.4mm) above ground.
(c) Changes in direction of vent piping shall be made by the appropriate
use of approved fittings and no such pipe shall be strained or bent.
Burred ends shall be reamed to the full bore of the pipe.
Section 7.04.060 of Chapter 7 is added to read:
Sec. 7.04.060 Materials
Section 1004(a) of the Uniform Plumbing Code is amended to read:
(a) Water pipe and fittings shall be of brass, copper, cast iron,
galvanized malleable iron, galvanized wrought iron; galvanized steel,
lead or other approved materials. Asbestos - cement, PE or PVC water
pipe manufactured to recognized standards may be used for cold water
distribution systems outside a building. All materials used in the
water supply system, except valves and similar devices shall be of a
like material, except where otherwise approved by the Administrative
Authority.
SECTION 8.
This ordinance takes effect 30 days after the date it is adopted.
Within 15 days after this ordinance is adopted, the Town Clerk shall
cause it to be published once in a newspaper of general circulation
published and circulated in the Town.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Town
Council of the Town of Los Gatos on March ' - 1984, and
adopted by the following vote as an ordinance of the Town of Los Gatos
at a regular meeting of the Town Council on April 2 , 1984.
