ADOPT RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
THE STREET RESURFACING OF HILLSIDE STREETS AND AUTHORIZE
STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BID
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution approving plans and specifications for the Street Resurfacing of Hillside Streets
Project and authorize staff to advertise the project for bid.
BACKGROUND:
The adopted Capital Improvement Program designates grant funds for this project through the
Caltrans Surface Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for the rehabilitation of hillside
streets and is consistent with the Town's goals to improve public safety.
DISCUSSION:
The Town of Los Gatos applied for and secured STIP grant funds from the State of California in
2007. These grant funds can only be used for resurfacing of collector and arterial streets in
municipalities.
This street resurfacing project will pave College Avenue and Prospect Avenue. The Town
recently completed resurfacing of a number of hillside streets (non collector or arterials) in the
area above the Civic Center, and this STIP funded project completes the paving of all the roads
in this area. The streets that were recently resurfaced were; Jackson Street, Oak Hill way, Grove
Street, Orchard Street, Central Avenue, and West Central Avenue.

Plans and Specifications for this project are complete and will be available for review in the
Clerk Department on the Friday before the Council meeting. If Council approves this project, it
will be advertised and a construction contract will be presented for Council to award the
construction contract in October 2008.
CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that the Council adopt the attached Resolution approving plans and
specifications for the Street Resurfacing of Hillside Streets Project, and authorize staff to
advertise the project for bids.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is a project as defined under CEQA but is Categorically Exempt (Section 15301c). A Notice
of Exemption will not be filed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Town has secured $272,170 STIP grant funds for the project and this project also has a
$40,000 local match. The local match is funded by the gas tax funds which the Town receives
from the State. The project construction cost estimate is $300,000 which is within the total
amount of the STIP grant and local match.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
APPROVING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
PPW JOB NO. 06-03 - STREET RESURFACING OF HILLSIDE STREETS -
(SURFACE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (STIP)
AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BIDS
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the Street Resurfacing of Hillside Streets
Project have been prepared by the Town Engineer and duly filed with the Clerk Administrator;
and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has reviewed said plans and
specifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council hereby approves
the plans and specifications for the Street Resurfacing of Hillside Streets Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Clerk Administrator is hereby authorized
and directed to advertise the Street Resurfacing of Hillside Street Project for bids in the manner
prescribed by the Town Municipal Code.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos held on the 2nd day of September, 2008 by the following vote:
