ACTIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the attached resolution requesting that the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors
consolidate a General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election to be held November
4, 2008, pursuant to Section 10403 of the Elections Code and authorizing other related actions
(Attachment No. 1).
DISCUSSION:
Two seats for the Los Gatos Town Council will expire in November 2008. The attached resolution
requests General Municipal Election Consolidation Services from the Santa Clara County Board of
Supervisors in conjunction with the Statewide General Election to be held on November 4, 2008
and authorizes other related procedural actions.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The estimated cost of consolidated election services is $50,000. Funds have been included in the
FY2008/09 budget.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONSOLIDATE A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE
STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 2008 PURSUANT TO SECTION
10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE AND AUTHORIZING OTHER RELATED ACTIONS
WHEREAS, a Statewide General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Town Council does hereby appoint the Clerk Administrator as the Election
Officer for the Town of Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that the General Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General
Election to be held on the same date and certain actions are required in connection with said elections.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS TOWN COUNCIL DOES HEREBY RESOLVE,
DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: Pursuant to the requirements of Section 10403 of the Elections Code, the Santa Clara County Board
of Supervisors is hereby requested to order the consolidation of the General Municipal Election with
the Statewide General Election to be held November 4, 2008 for the purpose of electing two (2)
members of the Town Council.
SECTION 2: The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters is authorized to canvass the returns of the election
called and the election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election and one
form of ballot. The precincts, polling places, and officers of the General Municipal Election
hereby called shall be the saine as those provided for said election as set forth in Section 10410 of the
Elections Code of the State of California.
SECTION 3: The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters is requested to certify the results of the canvass of the
returns of the General Municipal Election to the Town of Los Gatos Town Council, which shall
thereupon declare the results thereof.
SECTION 4: The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to issue instructions to the
Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of said General Municipal
Election. The Town will pay its pro rata share of extra costs incurred by the County in consolidating
the elections pursuant to Section 51350 of the Government Code.
SECTION 5: The Clerk Administrator is hereby authorized and directed to certify to the adoption of this
resolution and transmit a certified copy to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and to the
Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos this 2nd day
of June, 2008 by the following vote:
