my name is Pamela Laurence, I live at 234
3ohnson Ave, in Los Gatos.
i could not attend the meeting tonight so I am
asking that my letter be read for me.
I am disappointed that Los Gatos is having
such a hard time getting a skate board park
for our kids. First let me state that i have
no children and that a park does not benefit
me personally.
what i do see is kids skating down the street-
starting at cypress on down 3ohnson- along
with the cars! Talk about unsafe!!!- i would
like a place where they could go and skate
where they do not have to share the road with
cars!

i see skate parks being built all across the
state- in cities large and small-- Groveland-
a tiny town near Yosemite even has one. Los
Gatos is one of the riches areas around- why
can't we give our kids a place to play--get
them off the streets- please.

Subject: In Favor Of The Skate Park
Dear Karen,
Just in case we are unable to attend the Monday night Nov. 5th meeting in the Los Gatos Town
Council's chamber, we want all members of the Town Council to know that we are in support of
a Skate Park on Miles Avenue.
We believe that the Town Council should take on the responsibility of making a much needed
skate park facility happen; and that it should happen sooner rather than later. For several years
we have watched skate boarders roll down our street (Johnson Avenue) because they have no
where else to go for the challenge of perfecting their sport; but we feel certain that at some point
a terrible accident will occur with one of these skaters, perhaps resulting in devastating injury.
We also believe strongly that a park devoted to skate boarding could prevent the possibility of an
accident waiting to happen.
To the Town Council, please do the right thing and approve the Skate Park now !

Jackie,
I just received the following and with Pamela gone, I didn't know the appropriate way to forward it to Council.
Maybe as a desk item? Whatever you think. Thanks Mike
Mike, I understand the skate park is up for vote on Monday night. I just wanted to let you know my thoughts.
While I think a skate park is a nice thing for the youth of Los Gatos, I do not think the funding of $1 million by
the city for construction and an annual $50,000 for supervision is fiscally responsible. The skate park will only
benefits a very, small segment of the population. I think the funding of sports turf at the high school and Fisher
would benefit many more of Los Gatos' youth. I urge you to vote no on the skate board park initiative.

I am not planning to go to the Council meeting on Monday.
But I do have some comments about the skateboard park.
Is the way to approach the council about spending money on this park by intimidation and threats?
I received the email from Karen D. and was surprised by the tone of her letter.
I would like to add the LG Theatre to the list of projects for youth that we are raising money to complete. Just
for Karen's information.
What do other town's do for insurance and supervision at a skateboard park? What about mixing adult
skateboarders with the kids? Will the kids go to the site or will they prefer to skate on the school railings?
This is a hard one. I can understand why it hasn't happened yet.

RE; Skate Board Park in Los Gatos
As I am unable to attend this evening, this letter will provide my view as a concerned
resident and parent regarding the "Pros" in placing a Skate Board Park in Los Gatos.
My home is located on the corner of Cypress Way and Loma Alta and have seen too
many young people skate boarding down Loma Alta, which happens to be very
dangerous. Vehicles are always on this road and in some cases, ignore the stop signs.
Last year, a young man skate boarding hit a tree on our corner. He could have been
killed, but suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital.
I have often called the police as I young people as times laying on their backs on their
Skate boards down Loma Alta - again, a very busy street. I called the police several
times and they did come out and thanked me for the call and concern.
I see many signs all over town such as parking lots and shopping centers prohibiting
skate boarding. So where are they to go ? The Streets?
POSITIVES IN THE PARK
It would provide a venue for these kids - a safe place to enjoy their sport and sense of
community.
It would foster an advocacy acknowledgement to our kids that demonstrates concern ad
care for their well being and enjoyment.
Rules would need to be put in place on managing the skate park of course in terms of
hours the park is open, and behavior rules as well.
The park should also chaperoned by adult(s) to ensure safety rules are in place, etc.
Overall, it would be a wonderful place and keep our kids off the streets and provide a
place for them to enjoy their sport- skate boarding.

Yet another supporter of the park who cannot make the meeting takes the time to write.
Please - listen to the wishes of the community - do the right thing - the hard choice - the one the
community is begging you to do - and start building today.
Regarding portable equipment: Such a park is similar to a bunny slope for skiers. It is not a
solution, would waste taxpayers dollars - plus has inherit safety risks over time and higher
maintenace costs.

skateboard?? Nowhere. Streets are far too dangerous and there are signs up everywhere saying "No
Skateboarding". This park should be built for the kids, because they are what matters here.
