SUBJECT: ADOPT A RESOLUTION COMMUNICATING SUPPORT FOR A
COMMEMORATIVE STAMP IN HONOR OF TOM BRADLEY TO THE
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE CITIZENS STAMP ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Town Council adopt a resolution communicating support for a
commemorative stamp in honor of Tom Bradley to the United States Postal Service Citizens
Stamp Advisory Committee (Attachment 1).
BACKGROUND & DISCUSSION:
The Town received a memorandum from the League of California Cities Board of Directors
requesting support for the issuance of a postal stamp in honor of the late Tom Bradley, former
Mayor of Los Angeles. At its September 2007 meeting, the League Board of Directors
unanimously agreed to communicate its support a commemorative stamp of Tom Bradley to the
United States Postal Service Citizen Stamp Advisory Committee. Tom Bradley contributed
considerably to the cities of California as he served as Mayor of Los Angeles for 20 years from
1973 to 1993 and as the President of the League of California Cities in 1979-1980.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact related to the recommended action.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COMMUNICATING SUPPORT FOR A COMMEMORATIVE STAMP IN HONOR OF TOM
BRADLEY TO THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE CITIZENS STAMP ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, Tom Bradley's record of public service has left a legacy for many to follow; and
WHEREAS, in 1963 Tom Bradley ran for the Los Angeles City Council, and in 1973 was
elected as the 37`n Mayor of the largest city in California; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Bradley's record focused on a wide range of interests and issues, including
economic developmentto enable Los Angeles to compete successfully in the world market; and
WHEREAS, Tom Bradley's city colleagues recognized his leadership qualities and elected him
as the President of the National League of Cities in 1974, and President of the League of California Cities in
1979-80; and
WHEREAS, the record of Tom Bradley's public service is so exceptional that it is especially
fitting that the legacy of this great Californian and American be marked by the issuance of a special
commemorative stamp by the United States Postal Service in his honor.
RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, County of Santa Clara, State of
California, that the Town of Los Gatos communicate its support of a commemorativepostal stamp in honor of
the late Mayor Tom Bradleyto the United States Postal ServiceCitizens Stamp Advisory Committee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a Council meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los
Gatos, California, held on the3rd day of December, 2007 by the following vote:
