toscn~os COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
DATE: August 6, 2007
TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL
FROM: PAMELA JACOBS, INTERIM TOWN MANAGER
SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO
ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE LOS GATOS POLICE FOUNDATION
OF AN ENCLOSED FIREARMS AND RANGE CARGO TRAILER
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution authorizing the Town Manager to accept a donation from the Los Gatos Police
Foundation of an enclosed firearms and range cargo trailer.
BACKGROUND:
Over the past several years, the Los Gatos Police Foundation has received private donations and
conducted several fund raising events with funds specifically designated for the purchase of
supplies and equipment for the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department and its four
volunteer groups.
DISCUSSION:
Currently, the police department possesses numerous items of expensive firearms, ammunition
and related range supplies for the department's quarterly range qualifications and practice.
Additionally, the SWAT team uses more complex and sophisticated weaponry for its own
qualifications and monthly training sessions. These items are housed in various locations in the
police department, making it difficult for the range team to efficiently deploy the equipment to
the range in a safe and efficient manner.
