06 Staff Report - Transportation Priorities~rj N 0 tosG~ios COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT DATE: AUGUST 14, 2007 MEETING DATE: 8/20/07 ITEM NO: TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL FROM: PAMELA JACOBS, INTERIM TOWN MANAGER SUBJECT: TRANSPORTATION PRIORITIES FOR THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DISCUSS TRANSPORTATION PRIORITIES IN PREPARATION FOR A PRESENTATION TO THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AGENCY'S (VTA) POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE IN SEPTEMBER, 2007 RECOMMENDATION: Discuss transportation priorities in preparation for a presentation to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Agency's (VTA) Policy Advisory Committee in September, 2007. BACKGROUND: The VTA's Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) is compromised of elected officials from municipalities in Santa Clara County along with representatives from VTA. This committee sets policy and guidelines for long-range transportation planning in Santa Clara County. In 2005, PAC identified a need for their committee to receive current transportation-related information from each municipality in Santa Clara County. PAC has requested that each community present information about its transportation needs and priorities. PAC will use this information to formulate long-range plans for funding and allocation of resources countywide. Council member Steve Glickman is the current Town representative and chairperson of the PAC. This presentation provides general information about the Town's profile (population, size and miles of roadway), the Town's transportation goals, needs and priorities, and the Town's current transportation initiatives. For specifics on the presentation topics, please refer to the attachment. This presentation will provide PAC will current information about Los Gatos' efforts in transportation-related issues for its subsequent planning and resource allocation decisions. The Town's transportation system needs and priorities will be presented at a VTA PAC meeting in September, 2007. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: This project is not defined under CEQA, and no further action is required. FISCAL IMPACT: This presentation has no current direct fiscal impact. However, possible future fiscal impacts include increased PAC approved transportation funding for any of the Town's ongoing or future transportation-related initiatives.
