ADOPT RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
THE VILLA AVENUE RETAINING WALL REPLACEMENT PROJECT AND
AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BID
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution approving plans and specifications for the Villa Avenue Retaining Wall
Replacement Project and authorize staff to advertise the project for bid.
BACKGROUND:
There is an existing wooden retaining wall along Villa Avenue between Fiesta Way and Jackson
Avenue that has been in need of repair and replacement due to its age and deterioration. A
section of this wall was replaced three years ago and the remaining section of the wall failed in
late 2006 due to considerable damage resulting from the wet winter storms. The replacement is
needed as soon as possible this fiscal year to hold up the hillside. This project is consistent with
the Town's goals to improve public health and safety.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has been working with our design consultant over the past few months on preparing
construction document for the replacement of this wall. Plans and Specifications for this project
are complete and will be available for review in the Clerk Department on the Friday before the
Council meeting. If Council approves this project. it will be advertised, a construction contract
will be presented to Council for award in May 2007, and construction will begin in June 2007.

CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that Council adopt the attached Resolution approving plans and specifications
for the Villa Avenue Retaining Wall Replacement Project and authorize staff to advertise the
project for bids.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is a project as defined under CEQA but is Categorically Exempt (Section 15301 c). A Notice
of Exemption will not be filed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The project funding was approved as part of the mid-year budget report, on April 2, 2007, for
$150,000 from Retaining Wall Project Capital Improvement program funds. The construction
cost estimate is $150,000. The following chart describes the project's funding:

RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
APPROVING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
PPW JOB NO. 07-14 - VILLA AVENUE RETAINING WALL REPLACEMENT PROJECT
0406 AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BIDS
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the Villa Avenue Retaining Wall Replacement
Project have been prepared by the Town Engineer and duly filed with the Clerk Administrator;
and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has reviewed said plans and
specifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council hereby approves
the plans and specifications for the Villa Avenue Retaining Wall Replacement Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Clerk Administrator is hereby authorized
and directed to advertise the Villa Avenue Retaining Wall Replacement Project for bids in the
manner prescribed by the Town Municipal Code.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos held on the 16th of April, 2007 by the following vote:
