SUBJECT: (PPW JOB NO. 07-13) TAIT MUSEUM ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT
ADOPT RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
THE TAIT MUSEUM ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT AND AUTHORIZE
STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BID
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution approving plans and specifications for the Tait Museum Roof Replacement
project and authorize staff to advertise the project for bid.
BACKGROUND:
This project repairs leaks and refurbishes a multi-component roof system at the Town property
located at 4 Tait Avenue, currently occupied by The Museums of Los Gatos. This facility was
originally a fire station and has been used for various purposes in the past, including a natural
history museum. It is currently used to present and showcase local art exhibits.
DISCUSSION:
The roof at this location has been temporarily repaired on many occasions and continues to leak
due to material degradation and old age. It is composed of perimeter Spanish barrel the
supplemented within parapet walls by asphalt roll roofing with tar and gravel coating.
Refurbishing this roof will remove all the tiles, apply a new underlayment, re-use undamaged
tiles and replace any broken tiles. The flat portions of the roof will be stripped, a new waterproof
membrane applied and finished with a similar but updated roofing system. This project is
sensitive to the historic nature of the building and addresses the need for a functional roof while
maintaining the architectural integrity of the structure and the historic look of the neighborhood.
Plans and Specifications for this project are complete and will be available for review in the
Clerk Department on the Friday before the Council meeting. If Council approves this project, it

will be advertised, a construction contract will be presented for Council for award on May 21,
2007, and construction will begin in June 2007.
CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that the Council adopt the attached Resolution approving plans and
specifications for the Tait Museum Roof Replacement project and authorize staff to advertise the
project for bids.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is a project as defined under CEQA but is Categorically Exempt (Section 15301c). A Notice
of Exemption will not be filed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This new project to improve a Town facility can be funded with Building Maintenance Funds
(695), which has sufficient funding to meet this project's costs. A transfer of $75,000 from the
Building Fund to this project is recommended as follows:

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
APPROVING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
PPW JOB NO. 07-13 - TAIT MUSEUM ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT AND
AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BIDS
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the Tait Museum Roof Replacement project
have been prepared by the Town Engineer and duly filed with the Clerk Administrator; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has reviewed said plans and
specifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council hereby approves
the plans and specifications for the Tait Museum Roof Replacement project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Clerk Administrator is hereby authorized
and directed to advertise the Tait Museum Roof Replacement project for bids in the manner
prescribed by the Town Municipal Code.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos held on the 16`" of April, 2007 by the following vote:
