SUBJECT: DECLARE APRIL AS "VOTER EDUCATION MONTH"
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution declaring April as "Voter Education Month."
BACKGROUND:
The City Clerks Association of California and the Secretary of State have worked as partners to
encourage all eligible citizens to register and vote. The City Clerks Association of California and the
Secretary of State are asking California cities to support programs to provide nonpartisan
information to their communities to encourage participation in the election process.
DISCUSSION:
Staff will encourage participation in the election process by providing information on where to vote,
how to register, finding polling places, election results, and. how to find information related to
candidates. The attached resolution supports the efforts of the City Clerks Association and the
Secretary of state, as well as sends a positive message to Los Gatos citizens about the importance
of voting.

RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
DECLARING APRIL AS "VOTER EDUCATION MONTH"
WHEREAS: The City Clerks Association of California and the Secretary of State have worked
as partners to encourage all eligible citizens to register and vote, and;
WHEREAS: the month of April 2006 has been designated as "Voter Education Month" to
encourage Los Gatos residents to vote in every election.
WHEREAS: the strength and vitality of a democratic society depend on the "consent of the
governed" and that consent is given at the ballot box, and;
WHEREAS: the Town of Los Gatos supports programs to provide nonpartisan information to
citizens to encourage them to participate in the election process, including how and when to
register to vote, how to vote by mail, how to find information about candidates and issues, how
to locate the appropriate polling place, and how to find election results on the night of the
election, and;
WHEREAS: the Town has several programs, venues and activities to communicate with its
residents and voters about the importance of voting;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of los Gatos officially endorses April
as "Voter Education Month" and directs the Clerk Administrator to forward a copy of this
resolution to the Secretary of State, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk Administrator take appropriate action to
encourage all eligible citizens of the Town of Los Gatos to register for and vote in every election.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos,
California, held on the Td day of April, 2006 by the following vote:
