FIGONE, TOWN MANAGER SUBJECT: ADOPT A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE LOS GATOS POLICE FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $4200.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF SIX BALLISTIC VESTS TO BE USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S RESERVE UNIT EMPLOYEES. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution authorizing the Town Manager to accept a donation from the Los Gatos Police Foundation in the amcunt of $4200.00 for the purchase of six ballistic vests to be used by the Police Department's Reserve unit employees. BACKGROUND: The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department is committed to ensuring that all of its employees are afforded proper safety equipment to be used in the course of their duties. Over the past several years, the Los Gatos Police Foundation has received private donations and held several fiend raising events with monies specifically designated for the purchase of supplies and equipment for the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department and its volunteer groups. r DISCUSSION: The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Reserve program has been in existence for over 30 years and currently is comprised of seven.members, six of whom are assigned to the Operations Division. These employees supplement the department in a volunteer capacity. The warranties and suggested replacement dates on all their ballistic vests assigned to them are expired and further use of these ballistic safety vests is not recommended. Each vest needs to be replaced to comply with safety standards and manufacturer's warranties. PREPARED BY Scott R. The Los Gatos Police Foundation has agreed to donate the cost of these ballistic vests to the police department. This $4200.00 donation will allow for the purchase without impacting the police department's operating budget. CONCLUSION: Staff recommends that Council adopt a resolution to accept this donation. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required. FISCAL IMPACT: None ATTACHMENTS: Resolution DISTRIBUTION: General RESOLUTION NO. RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT FROM THE LOS GATOS POLICE FOUNDATION THE AMOUNT OF $4,200 FOR THE PURCHASE OF RESERVE UNIT BALLISTIC VESTS WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Police Foundation has donated funds to the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department for the purchase of ballistic vests; and WHEREAS, the Police Department will receive a $4,200 donation from the Los Gatos Police Foundation which will cover the costs of the vests; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, that the Town Manager is authorized to accept a donation from the Los Gatos Police Foundation for the purpose of purchasing ballistic vests for the reserve unit employees.
