TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL
FROM: DEBRA J. FIGONE, TOWN MANAGER
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT A $2,500 GRANT
FROM PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY TO THE TOWN OF
LOS GATOS TO BE USED TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY UNITY
EFFORT IN LOS GATOS.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Authorize the Town Manager to accept a $2,500 grant from Pacific Gas and Electric'
Company (PG&E) to the Town of Los Gatos (Attachment 1) to be used to support the
Community Unity effort in Los Gatos.
2. Authorize $2,500 increase in revenue and expenditures appropriations in program 8099.
BACKGROUND:
The goal of Community Unity is to continue a process that results in volunteer efforts aimed at
maintaining and improving community, building community partnerships, and fostering civic pride.
Since its official kick-off in March 2005, local service clubs, businesses, religious organizations,
nonprofit agencies, school clubs, neighborhood associations, and interested individuals have
identified and volunteered for a wide variety of projects to benefit our community.
DISCUSSION:
The Town of Los Gatos has provided a forum through which volunteers partnerships were formed
and maintained. Because Community Unity does not have a funding source, a grant from PG&E was
solicited to help fund Community Unity projects, marketing, and logistics as needed. The dispersal
of funds will be facilitated by the Community Services Department, and PG&E will receive
recognition for services provided as a result of this donation.
