SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT A
DONATION FROM THE LOS GATOS POLICE FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF
$5,348.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF 40 MULTI-USE TRAINING MATS FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution authorizing the Town Manager to accept a donation from the Los Gatos Police
Foundation in the amount of $5,348.00 for the purchase of 40 multi-use training mats for the Police
Department.
BACKGROUND:
Over the past several years, the Los Gatos Police Foundation has received private donations and
conducted several fund raising events with funds specifically designated for the purchase of supplies
and equipment for the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department and its volunteer groups..
During the last several years the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department has been borrowing
training mats from various police departments and private organizations to use during mandated
physical exercises and arrest and control training. It has become increasingly difficult to secure these
mats for all the required training dates and is inefficient to transport and return mats each time.
DISCUSSION:
The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department is committed to maintaining and improving
perishable defensive tactics and arrest and control skills. To maintain this commitment and provide
a high level of training the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department needs to acquire their own

training mats for ongoing and proposed training dates. The Los Gatos Police Foundation has agreed
to donate the cost of these mats to the police department. This $5,348.00 donation will allow for the
purchase of this needed item, without impacting the department budget.
CONCLUSION:
Staff recommends that Council adopt a resolution to accept this donation.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
Is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Police Foundation has donated funds to the Los
Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department for the purchase of training mats; and,
WHEREAS, the Police Department will receive a $5,348 donation from the
Los Gatos Police Foundation which will cover the cost of the training mats;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town
of Los Gatos, that the Town Manager is authorized to accept a donation from the Los
Gatos Police Foundation for the purpose of purchasing training mats needed to support
the training program of the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council.of the
Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 21st day of November, 2005 by the
following vote:
