08 Staff Report - Retaining Wall ReplacementMEETING DATE: 5/2/05 °w N 0 ITEM NO. 8 COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT !ps Gp'(°S DATE: APRIL 20, 2005 TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL FROM: DEBRA J. FIGONE, TOWN MANAGER SUBJECT: PROJECT 04-26 - FY 2004-05 - RETAINING WALL REPLACEMENT ADOPT RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE RETAINING WALL REPLACEMENT PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BIDS RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution approving plans and specifications for the Retaining Wall Replacement Program and authorizing staff to advertise the project for bids. BACKGROUND: The layout of the land and topography on many of the Town's hillside roads require construction of retaining walls for stability and support of the roadway. A number of these walls have been built over the past decades and will need repair and replacement over the coming years. Over the past three years, the Town has been rebuilding a number of failed retaining walls on Villa Avenue, Reservoir Road, Kimble Drive, and Jackson Street. The Town will continue the work that has been on-going in replacing failed retaining walls using the allocated budget for these projects. DISCUSSION: This project will repair and reconstruct a failed retaining wall along Oak Hill Way near the intersection of Grove Street. The existing wood retaining wall had failed creating erosion of the side slopes and severe roadway deterioration and settlement. At this location we will also repair a failed roadway section next to the retaining wall and improve the drainage system on this site. If approved by Council, the construction of this Project is expected to start in July 2005 and be completed by August 2005. Plans and Specifications for Project 04-26 are complete and are available for review in the Clerk Department. PREPARED BY: OHN E.
