ITEM NO. 18
~o.ejele .os COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
S g p5
DATE: APRIL 15, 2005
TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL `
FROM: DEBRA FIGONE, TOWN MANAGE
SUBJECT: BOARD, COMMISSION, AND COMMITTEE VACANCIES
DIRECT THE CLERK ADMINISTRATOR TO ADVERTISE FOR ONE
VACANCY ON THE GENERAL PLAN COMMITTEE (BUSINESS
OWNER/MANAGER); ONE VACANCY ON THE TRANSPORTATION
AND PARKING COMMISSION; AND ONE VACANCY ON THE
COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION.
RECOMMENDATION:
Direct the Clerk Administrator to advertise for one vacancy on the General Plan Committee
(business owner/manager); one vacancy on the Transportation and Parking Commission; and one
vacancy on the Community Services Commission.
BACKGROUND:
Council interviewed three applicants for two positions on the General Plan Committee on March 21,
2005. One position required a business owner or business manager doing business within the Town
of Los Gatos. On April 4, 2005, Council appointed Barbara Cardillo to the business manager
position and Mark Sgarlato to the resident position on the General Plan Committee. The third
candidate, Libby Lane, was willing to serve on any Board or Commission and was appointed to the
one vacant position on the Community Services Commission. Bruce Entin missed the interview.
for the Transportation and Parking Commission and therefore that position remains open. However
Mr. Entin has asked to be reconsidered for that vacancy.

therefore thought she should resign from the business owner/manager position on the General
Plan Committee rather than serve for a limited period of time (Attachment 1). Further, another
vacancy has occurred on the Community Services Commission with the resignation of Maggie
Vondras whose term expires December 31, 2006 (Attachment 2).
Council policy states that vacant positions on Boards and/or Commissions be advertised for thirty
(30) days. Staff recommends that the Council direct the Clerk Administrator to proceed with
advertising the three openings on April 27, 2005. The closing date would be May 27, 2005,
interviews would be held prior to the June 6, 2005 Council meeting, with final appointments
taking place at the Council meeting of June 20, 2005.
CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that Council direct the Clerk Administrator to readvertised the three (3)
Commission openings using the time frame stated.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
