CONSTRUCTION. BRINGING THE TOTAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR
THE BLOSSOM HILL ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT 400-0550
FROM $10,000 TO $15,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt resolution approving revised project scope and authorizing staff to conduct informal
bid process.
2. Authorize budget adjustment from completed project 400-0536, Safe Route to School
Sidewalk Construction, bringing the total appropriations for the Blossom Hill Roof
Replacement Project 400-0550 from $10,000 to $15,000.
BACKGROUND:
The Blossom Hill Park Bathroom Roof Replacement Project was approved as a FY 2004-05 Capital
Improvement Project for the amount of $10,000. These facilities are located at Blossom Hill Park and
were anticipated to cost no more than $10,000 to replace the roof. Staff has conducted informal bids
to have the work done this fiscal year, during the spring of 2005.

DISCUSSION:
During the informal bidding process, (as this project is under $75,000-the level required for formal
bids) it was determined that the existing roofing materials contain asbestos. This discovery was
-unknown to present staff, as the roof is the original and was placed approximately twenty (20) years
ago. This new issue will require licensed asbestos abatement, which increases the prof ect's estimated
cost by $5,000.
There are several roofing companies with asbestos removal licenses in the bay area. Once the
additional finding is authorized, staff will initiate the informal bid process, which includes verifying
insurance and business license requirements, to begin the process to complete this Capital
Improvement proj ect.
CONCLUSION:
Staff recommends that Council authorize the proposed budget adjustment from completed project
400-0536, Safe Route to School Sidewalk Construction, to increase the additional unexpected cost
of this project by $5,000.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
Is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This project will utilize an additional $5,000 from completed Project 400-0536, Safe Route to School-
Sidewalk Construction. Project 400-0536 is completed and has a GFAR balance of $10,000. The
proposed budget adjustment will increase the Project 400-0550, Blossom Hill Park Roof Replacement,
budget cost fiom $10,000 to $15,000.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
APPROVING THE REVISED PROJECT PLANS AND SCOPE FOR
CAPITAL PROJECT 400-0550 BLOSSOM HILL PARK ROOF REPLACEMENT,
AUTHORIZING STAFF TO CONDUCT INFORMAL BID PROCESS AND AUTHORIZING A
BUDGET ADJUSTMENT FROM COMPLETED PROJECT 400-0536, SAFE ROUTE TO
SCHOOL SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION, BRINGING THE TOTAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR
THE BLOSSOM HILL ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT 400-0550 FROM $10,000 TO
$15,000.
WHEREAS, public improvements are of benefit to the project area, the immediate
neighborhood of the project area and the coimntunty at large; and
WHEREAS, no other reasonable means of financing suchpublic improvements are available
to the cor ntuiity; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has reviewed said project plans and
scope.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council hereby approves the
revised project plans and scope for the Blossom Hill Park Roof Replacement Project and for staff to
conduct informal bid process.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT the Town Cotuzcil authorizes a budget adjustment
from completed project 400-0536, Safe Route to School Sidewalk Constriction, bringing the total
appropriations for the Blossom Hill Park Roof Replacement Project from $10,000 to $15,000.
