This is a one-time gift, as the AWARENESS OF LIBRARY Friends ordinarily fund only library enhancements, not operating budget items. RESOURCES; TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LIBRARY The Friends board's decision. to break tradition in contributing $5,000 to a library operating ENHANCEMENTS; AND TO PROVIDE VOLUNTEER budget item was prompted by reports from among our over 800 members that popular HELP TO THE LIBRARY, fiction and nonfiction books were either not available at the library or required being on a ITS PATRONS AND HOME reserve waiting list with up to 15 names ahead of them. One member stated that a popular BOUND LOS GATANS. book she wanted was not obtainable at Los Gatos Library, however when checking at the Saratoga Library she learned there were 15 copies of the desired book available with15 patrons on the reserve list and a wait of only three days. We are saddened to see entire shelves in the new book section empty, and by the fact that the 60% increase in circulation of the past four years is now dwindling due to our lack of hard copy and electronic materials. Friends of the Library appreciate and understand the difficult job facing the Council in prioritizing needs and balancing the budget, and we thank you for the time and commitment you give to the community.
