Community Services Commissioners. BACKGROUND: In order to improve the recruitment and appointment process for student members ofthe Parks and Community Services Commissions, the' student
residency requirements, and the recruitment and \ appointment process are identical for each commission. Students are recruited during the recruitment period, August through the October

The sub-committee's recommendation is then forwarded to their respective commissions for approval, iftime allows, and then to Council for appointment. The student commissioners appointed
by Council will begin their term of office immediately after taking the Oath of Office. DISCUSSION: Each Commissionhas two student vacancies, and five applications were received. Each
commission received two individual applications, and one applicant applied to both commissions. Parks Commission: A Parks Commission sub-committee interviewed applicants on October 20,
2004, and determined that Sam Richards and Megan Riley would best serve the Commission. Community Services Commission: The Community Services Commission sub-committee held interviews
on October 21,2004, and recommend that Kimberly Smith and Leila Vaez-Irarani be appointed. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that Council accept the recommendations from the Parks and Community
Services Commissions to appoint Megan Riley and Sam Richards to the Parks Commission, and Kimberly Smith and Leila Vaez-Irarani to the Community Services Commission. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS:

Briefly describe your interest, education and/or experience as they pertain to this board or commission: 1have served my community' from a young age. As a member ofGiti Scouts of America
and a Brownie troop member at Dave's Avenue School, I participated in'several community projects. More recently, as part of the core group for Alive and Loving Life, and a member since
it's inception in 2002, I've actively participated in Under 21 Club, where I helped set up, clean up., and promote the latest successful event at the los Gatos Bar and Grill. As a freshman
I volunteered to assist.participants in the Special Olympics 2003 at Independence High School for the entire day. I was a volunteer for the Easter Egg Hunt 2003 sponsored by the los
Gatos-Saratoga Community Education and Recreation Department. As a volunteer in the Interact Club, I helped clean up Los Gatos High School's campus as a freshman. I have been recommended
by two teachers, and accepted, to be a member of link Crew at LGHS for my junior year . Last Last summer I was selected as a camp counselor for Walden West, where I spent the week working
with 10-12 year olds. I have been recruited again to work at Walden West for this upcoming summers program. My current involvement in the community will take place this week as a participant
in the fashion show entitled Fashion for a Cause Fashion Show, 2004 by the Diversity Task Force, and this years event will benefit Next Door Battered Women's Shelter. The qualities I
will bring to the Youth Commission include my organizational skills, I'm committed to what I undertake, I am a good communicator, and have access to many different groups of teens and
adults. I'm well spoken; goal oriented and determined to succeed at whatever I attempt to do. I find it a challenge to see tasks implemented that students and adults of our community
agree would make a good change, and I want to make a difference by improving and further enriching the resources of Los Gatos. I take an active interest in the town's political affairs,
and have worked with our past mayor, Sandy Decker, and the Chief of Police Scott Seaman. Please consider my application for Youth Commission. I will prove to be active and involved.
