And that is establishing Bed and Breakfasts in Los Gatos. The reason that I believe they would be good for Los Gatos briefly follows: 1. Many upscale tourist destinations have B &Bs; Carmel, Mendocino, Napa, etc. Los Gatos is certainly an upscale tourist destination. 2. Many people who go to these destinations prefer to stay in B & Bs and do not stay in hotels/motels, if a suitable B & B is nearby. 3. Nearby towns have B &Bs, such as San Jose and I believe Saratoga. The argument that B & Bs will hurt the hotel, motel business in Los Gatos is a lame excuse. Even when ·hotel/motel occupancy was very high in the late '90's, B & Bs were not approved. Establishing B & Bs will help business by bringing' in tourists who would use the restaurants, frequent antique stores, and shop in town, people who otherwise would not stay in Los Gatos. Taxes on B & Bs would bring added income to the town. I don't believe that B & Bs would be serious competition to hotels/motels, they attract a different type of cliental. Even if B & Bs were allowed there . aren't many residential homes that would met the requirements of a B &B (number of rooms, parking, safety requirements etc.), plus those that do may not have the cwners who would want to turn their home into a B & B. Most B & Bs have very limited rooms available to stay in, maybe three to five or six rooms. Los Gatos likes to think of itself as an upscale tourist destination, like Carmel, Napa, Mendocino, etc. Let's indeed make it a true tourist destination by getting it in the FPat.l3Y 􀁇􀁡􀁲􀁣􀁾􀁡 -Town Council Referral TC-04-50 -9/17/2004 e-mail from Bob Booth ... .. I am sorry that I must attend a required preschool night meeting instead. You had asked for discussion ideas in advance and I hope some of my neighbors will be present to add their input on our street trees. As you know, the street trees on Atwood Court appear to have been dying for the past two years or more. (FYI -I see this same type of tree faring poorly on Bonnie Lane and in front of Fischer Middle School as well.) The residents on Atwood Court have been waiting for more information about the state of our streets trees as well as the replacement of the worst trees for over a year. Please let us know what the Public Works Department expert findings are regarding the Atwood Court street trees and the planned schedule for removal and replacement of these trees. My only other Town concern is the pedestrian path along Blossom Hill Road between Atwood Court and Blossom Hill Park/School. It is immediately next to the road where cars and large trucks can easily travel 45 mph. Walking to and from school with my daughters every day does not feel safe. My only suggestion is that someday the Town might create a 3' wide easement next to the property walls (on the two properties between Atwood and Hillbrook on the south/west side of Blossom Hill Road) in exchange for adding landscaping out to the road for the two affected properties. 􀁫􀁾􀁡􀁉􀁓􀁙 􀁬􀀮􀀺􀁩􀁡􀁲􀁾􀁬􀁡 -1011\',,, COLIneil 􀁒􀁥􀁦􀁥􀁲􀁲􀁡􀁉􀁔􀁃􀀭􀀰􀀴􀁾􀀵􀀮􀀲 􀁾 􀀹􀀯􀁾􀀱􀁩􀀮􀀹􀀴 􀁥􀁾􀁭􀁡􀁩􀁬 frorn.l<i3thy 􀁋􀁲􀁃􀁬􀁾􀁾􀁥􀁨􀁥 That's all for now. Our names are Pat and Len Viale, and we have several concerns. We love our town of Los Gatos and for the most part it is almost perfect. We live at 50 Alpine Ave. and most of our concerns regard that street. -Speeding on Alpine by students after school lets out -All day parking on Alpine by students does not allow for parking by residents or their guests in front of their homes. This also keeps the street cleaners from doing their jobs as the cars are there 5 days a week all day. This is also addressed in the following. -An extensive red no parking zone designed to prohibit student all day parking was implemented without discussion with the residents of the street. This prohibits occasional parking by guests of the residents that do not create a traffic hazard. A 2 hour limit from 8:00 AM. to 4:00 P.M. would have been as effective and more convenient for the residents. -The sidewalk adjacent to the beauty salon on Alpine is a mess. An accumulation of leaves and broken fence post make it a hazard and an eyesore. MY wife has complained to the city about this, but to no avail. -The sidewalk in front of speedy mart across from the High School is a mess. It looks unhealthy and should be power washed at regular intervals. We appreciate an opportunity to voice our concerns and hope something can be done to resolve these problems. Thank You Len and Pat Viale cc: Irene Shrier; Millie Sperath
