PROJECT FOR BIDS RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution approving plans and specifications for the FY 2003-04 -SafeRoutes to Schools Grant Funded Sidewalk Project and authorizing staffto advertise
the proj ect for bids. BACKGROUND: The Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) Grant was establishedbythe State Legislature to protect children on their way to school. This project will install
sidewalks on Winchester Boulevard, Roberts Road, and Los Gatos Boulevard. The Town has secured a grant for this project. The construction of this -. project is anticipated to begin in
July 2004 and be completed before the beginning of the school in the Fall. DISCUSSION: The plans and specifications for the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Funded Sidewalk Project are complete
and will be filed with the Town Clerk and be available for review by the public. The attached Resolution, if adqpted, would formally approve the plans and specifications and authorize

adopt the attached Resolution approving the plans and specifications for the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Funded Sidewalk Project and authorize staff to advertise the project for bids.
Staffis issuing a press release to update thecommunity on sidewalk construction proj ect and will continue to keep the schools apprised of the project's progresS so that parents
will be informed. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required. FISCAL IMPACT: The estimated cost to complete the Safe Routes
to Schools Grant Funded Sidewalk Project is $300,000. $335,000 is being proposed in the FY 2004/05 Capital Improvement Program -Project 4001410-0536 to fund this project, which includes
$35,000 for the Town's required matching funds. The preliminary FY2004/05 -2008/09 Capital Improvement Program plan was discussed at the May 17,2004 Town Council meeting. The Town would
like to schedule construction to begin in July 2004 and therefore bids must be obtain in June. Construction needs to be completed before school begins in the Fall. Attachments: Resolution

RESOLUTION RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS APPROVING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PROJECT 04-36 -FY 2003-04 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS GRANT FUNDED SIDEWALK
PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO ADVERTISE THE PROJECT FOR BIDS WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Funded Sidewalk Projects have been prepared by
the Town Engineer and duly filed with the Town Clerk; and WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has reviewed said plans and specifications. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLYED
THAT the Town Council hereby approves the plans and specifications. BE IT FURTHERRESOLYED THAT the Town Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise the Safe Routes to Schools
GrantFunded Sidewalk Project forbids in the manner prescribed by the Town Municipal C0de. PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council ofthe Town of Los Gatos held on
