FIGONE, TOWN MANAGER ACCEPTANCE OF GIFT FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES RECOMMENDATION: Accept bequest to the Los Gatos Public Library from the estate of the late Susan E. (Betty) McClendon. BACKGROUND: On March 29,2004, Town Attorney Orry Korb was notified that the Library would receive a check in the amount of $80,000 from the estate of Betty McClendon, to be used at the Library Board's direction for children's services. When the estate is completely settled, the library will receive an additional amount, estimated to be $20,000 or more, also to be used to enhance children's services at the library. DISCUSSION: Betty McClendon was a long-time Los Gatos resident and dance instructor. She is especially remembered as the choreographer ofthe Town's 1940 pageant, "Trail Days," which celebrated the completion ofthe final section ofthe new four-lane highway from Santa Cruz into Los Gatos. Betty Betty McClendon's mother, Mrs. Hilda McClendon, served as Children's Librarian at Los Gatos Memorial Library from 1923 -1929. Ms. McClendon left this gift in memory ofher mother and her mother's husband, Gorman Burtner. CONCLUSION: Staffrecommends that Council accept this donation from the estate ofthe late Susan E. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds received were deposited in the Library Trust Fund 710. The funds are restricted for use for children's services at the library. Any appropriation ofthese funds will be done either through the annual budget process or through Town Council approved budget adjustments as recommended by Town staff and the Library Board.
