Garcia -Los Gatos Town Council Members Los Gatos Town Council Members Dear Council Members, my name is William c. Parrish, Jr. and I am the C.E.O. of' the Santa Clara County Medical
Association. The Santa Clara County Medical Association is a non-profit association, serving physicians, their patients, and the community in health related issues for over 125 years.
I would like to ask for your consideration and support on an issue that will be brought before you on Monday March 16,2004. The issue, as I understand it, involves a property use/building
issue. A group of nine local physicians wish to build and occupy a 20,000 sq. ft. medical office building at 15047 Los Gatos Blvd, The Los Gatos Planning Commission is requiring 4000
sq. ft. (20%) to be utilized for retail. This would place a burden on these physicians, their patients, and perhaps the greater community at large. We ask you to consider an exception
in this case.. If an exception were not granted, there would not be enough "medical use" space at this location for these physicians to practice together in a group setting. Thiswould
be disruptive, inconvenient, and costly to their practice and the patients they serve. It might also have unintended consequences, sending another negative message to physicians struggling
to practice in our county. Muftiplerecent surveys depict serious concerns relative to maintaining adequate levels of physicians in our community. We already experience physician shortages
in certain specialties, recruitment is extremely difficult, and our current physician population is aging. We have physicians retiring early and/or relocating their practices out of
the area. Why is Santa Clara County being impacted? It is high housing costs, high labor and rent, escalating insurance costs combined with decreased reimbursement and increased regUlations.
. I mention the above issues to make a plea that access to health care in our area is a major concern; requiring government, business and individuals to be aware of this impending crisis
and and move decisively to reduce barriers for physicians and other health care practitioners to practice in our community. I ask you to consider this information and ask you to grant
a use exception for health care delivery. If I can provide any additional information or assistance, please contact me at 408-998-8850. This is a serious issue and I appreciate your
