RECOMMENDATION:
Accept recommendation from Community Services Commission Chair and Vice Chair to appoint
Rachel Berkowitz as student Community Services Commissioner.
BACKGROUND:.
Since September 2003, the Community Services Commission has employed essentially the same
process used by the Parks Commission for appointing student Commissioners. Both Commissions
make recommendations to Council of applicants to fill student Commissioner positions.
DISCUSSION:
The Town Clerk's Office began advertising for the vacancy in May, 2003. Ads were placed in the
Los Gatos Weekly and in KCAT. Letters and flyers were sent to the career centers of all schools
serving Los Gatos middle and high school students and posted throughout the Civic Center.
There were two applications for the position of student Community Services Commissioner. The
Community Services Commission interviewed Rachel Berkowitz at its January meeting. A
telephone interview was conducted with the other student who was not available to attend the
Community Services Commission meeting. The Commission Chair and Vice-Chair recommend that
Rachel Berkowitz would be an asset to the Commission and recommend that she be appointed as

help the community.
CONCLUSION:
The Community Services Commission Chair and Vice Chair recommends that Rachel Berkowitz
be appointed as a student Commissioner.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS:
This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
