Verbal Communications Received Non-Agenda Items.061421From: Jeffrey Suzuki Sent: Monday, June 14, 2021 9:33 PM To: PublicComment <PublicComment@losgatosca.gov> Subject: Verbal Communications – Non Agenda Item — Support for DEI Dear members of the Town Council, I want to voice my support for the town's effort in DEI. I understand that the town poles with "Listen, Learn, Change, Grow" have been under attack. I also understand the importance of leading and doing right under pressure. Don't be intimidated by these folks and continue working toward a more welcoming and just Los Gatos. Regards, Jeff From: Peakhickey Sent: Monday, June 14, 2021 9:39 PM To: PublicComment <PublicComment@losgatosca.gov> Subject: Verbal Communications- non agenda item - SUPPORT FOR DEI Dear Members of the Town Council: I write to express my wholehearted support for the Town's efforts at diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Chamber's "Listen, Learn, Change, Grow" signs are a positive step in that direction, and we hope that the Town will continue to take steps that will make Los Gatos a welcoming place for people of all backgrounds and faiths, especially Black, indigenous, and people of color, who have been traditionally marginalized in our society. Thank you for your efforts! The new signs are such a welcome sight, and critical reminder for us all. Please continue to forge ahead and disregard those who are so loudly afraid of inclusive changes! Thank you, Mara Hickey Parent of kids (who graduated from Lexington) at Fisher and LGHS. Thank you for your efforts! Please continue to forge ahead! To share just a bit of my own story, it was in Los Gatos in 1968 that my second-grade teacher at St. Mary's School taught us about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the injustices faced by Black people in this country. When Dr. King was shot, we knew exactly what was going on, and my classmates and I still sing the praises of our teacher, Mrs. Goldsborough, for making sure that, even though we were part of a small, tight-knit Catholic community, we grew up with compassion and caring for communities outside our own. I hope that children in Los Gatos today will similarly grow up with such exemplary teaching as we did, and I thank the Council, Chamber, and the Los Gatos Union School District for moving in that direction. It's my fervent hope that the High School District is not far behind. Thank you again for your support, Ali Miano _________________________________ Alice A. Thank you so much for all your efforts! The Chamber's "Listen, Learn, Change, Grow" signs are a positive step in that direction. I was happy to see them around town. It’s a message that we all should embrace. I hope the Town will continue to take steps that will make Los Gatos an even more welcoming place for people of all backgrounds and faiths. Thank you for your efforts! Please continue to forge ahead! Please let me know if there is anything I may do to assist in these efforts, too.
