Hi,
My name is Dan Cohen, I live at 28 Mariposa Ave, Los Gatos, CA 95030.
I strongly support building this pedestrian bridge. We need better provisions for safely cycling in the
community and this will make it safer for me to bike to work which will encourage me to do it more
often. That will slightly reduce traffic in Los Gatos at peak times and also make me slightly thinner.
Regards,
Dan

Subject: Public Comment Item #12 (Blossom Hill Road Bike/Ped bridge)
Hello all.
I've lived in Los Gatos since the early 90s, and I've been an avid mountain biker in the area for
almost 30 years. I will climb over 400,000 vertical feet in 2020, 99% of it here in the Los Gatos
Mountains.
While I am thoroughly comfortable descending from the top of Priest Rock (a steep rutty, rocky
fireroad in the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve descending over 2,000 feet) I am very
uncomfortable riding in the bike lane on Blossom Hill Road. The steep curb risks a pedal strike
that could throw you into traffic. The distracted drivers multitasking as they cross the bridge
could easily make a tragic mistake. There's no reason for someone as comfortable on a bike as
me to feel so uncomfortable riding around town. I applaud any infrastructure effort to keep
bikes and pedestrians safe from vehicles, as it makes our town a more pleasant and safer place
to live.
From what I understand, most of the funds to build this bridge are coming from a grant from
outside the community. I understand this grant is specifically focused on providing bridges like
this, and could not be used for other, non bike/pedestrian street or intersection improvements
in our town. So - if we don't take advantage of this grant money, it would go to another
community with a greater focus on bike/pedestrian safety. No community should value
bikes/pedestrians more than Los Gatos! Let's prove it!
Thanks for your time,
Brian Royston
