Item 2 - Exhibit 02 - Public CommentTo: Los Gatos Town Planning Commission. (copied to LOS Gatos Traffic Engineering) Subject: Shannon Road Traffic Calming (LG Boulevard to Short Road) On behalf of the residents of Shannon Road, and with respect to the Planning Commission meeting scheduled for May 13, 2020. 1. The problem we have been addressing with the traffic engineering department relates to a highly dangerous situation on our street, caused by very frequent excessive speeding on this section of Shannon Road, endangering residents, pedestrians and other road users. A petition to the Town was signed by 50% of the eligible residents in 2019, and a traffic study conducted by the traffic engineering department, confirmed that the Town’s traffic calming criteria has been met for the relevant section of Shannon Road. 2. It has recently come to our attention that the Town’s draft Plan includes consideration for safety improvements along a related sub-section of Shannon Road, following a study conducted by a third party, which was initiated and funded by the Town. In this regard, we request to the Planning Commission to plan and budget for effective Traffic Calming along Shannon Road from LG Boulevard to Short Road to moderate speeding and improve safety, in a manner that is consistent with the needs of the residents, as represented by the petition, and the goals of the existing draft Town Plan and is compatible with aesthetics appropriate to a residential street. 3. Our current status is that we are engaged with the traffic engineering department (Jessy Pu and Michael Vroman) in preparation of the next steps in the defined process to formally consult with the eligible residents on the preferred Traffic Calming measure(s) to be implemented 4. Our immediate requests to the Planning Commission are as follows: a) provide guidance on how we can align the residents desires & preferences with the draft Town plan, extended from LG Boulevard to Short Road. b) achieve a common design for any proposed road modifications to improve safety on the stated section of Shannon Road. c) make best use of available budgets by avoiding duplication of effort in planning and implementation d) provide the residents with continued visibility on planning & budgeting process for this item, in conjunction with LG Traffic Engineering Please advise if you require any additional information. Thank you for your consideration of this submission. With best regards, Frank Lawrence & Mary Hammers. EXHIBIT 2
