RE: S-16-038 at 16386 Hilow Road

Dear Commissioners: TO~ OF LOS GATOS
PLANNING DIVISION
I write to ask the Planning Commission to uphold the appeal of the
Development Review Ccommittee decision on the subject
application, which is scheduled to be heard on November 8. I have
great concern that the DRC finding that this application complies
with the Town of Los Gatos Residential Design Guidelines.
The Residential Design Guidelines were adopted by the Town
Council in 2008 to establish community expectations that new homes
be developed in a manner that is sensitive and respectful of their
neighborhoods. The Guidelines emphasize the expectation that new
homes will respect the scale and character of the immediate
neighborhoods and be designed with respect for the views, privacy
and solar access of their neighbors.
The proposed house at 16386 Hilow Road is designed in a manner
that has direct impacts light air and solar access to the Appellant in
the house to the north. .The two-story bulk and mass of the house is
positioned directly adjacent active living spaces of the neighbor and,
as the tallest house in the neighborhood, creates unacceptable shadow ·
impacts.
Please uphold the appeal and continue your strong support for the
intent of the Residential Design Guidelines, which will be a
tremendous tool to maintaining the unique character of Los Gatos, if
implemented properly.
Very truly yours, . _
PH/L ~1CL./c..H'fr .
Signed
