AUGUST 8, 2018
The Planning Commission of the Town of Los Gatos conducted a Regular Meeting on
Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair D. Michael Kane, Commissioner Mary Badame, Commissioner Melanie Hanssen,
Commissioner Kathryn Janoff, and Commissioner Tom O’Donnell
Absent: Vice Chair Matthew Hudes, Commissioner Kendra Burch
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Badame led the Pledge of Allegiance. The audience was invited to participate.

MOTION: Motion by Commissioner O’Donnell to approve adoption of the Consent
Calendar. Seconded by Commissioner Badame.

Conditional Use Permit Application U-18-001

Property Owner: Mike Rugani
Applicant: Christy English
Project Planner: Ryan Safty
Requesting approval for group classes (Bay Area Acting Studio) on property zoned C-2.
Commissioner Badame stated that she would recuse herself from participating in the public
hearing for 155 North Santa Cruz Avenue, because her place of business is within 500 feet of
the project location.
Ryan Safty, Associate Planner, presented the staff report.
Opened Public Comment.
John Pickering
- His business partner, Christy English, founded the Bay Area Acting Studio in 2003, but the
current location is now full to capacity, and they are excited for the opportunity to open in
Los Gatos.
Christy Pickering
- The Bay Area Acting Studio teaches acting for film and television, and they would keep that
same curriculum at the Los Gatos location. They plan to sponsor programs at the local
schools, and currently offer scholarships. (A video of students and their parents followed.)
Closed Public Comment.
MOTION: Motion by Commissioner O'Donnell to approve a Conditional Use Permit
for 155 North Santa Cruz Avenue, Suite G. Seconded by Commissioner
Janoff.
Commissioners discussed the matter.
VOTE: Motion passed unanimously.

OTHER BUSINESS
3. Report from the Director of Community Development
Joel Paulson, Director of Community Development
• Town Council met on 8/7/18:
o Appointed three additional members to the General Plan Advisory Committee;
o Introduced the Affordable Housing Overlay Zone Ordinance modifications that
the Planning Commission had recommended for approval;
o Discussed the North Forty and continued the matter to the meeting of 8/15/18.
• The Rotten Robbie application that was continued to the Planning Commission meeting
of 8/22/18 has been continued again. The application was the only item on the agenda,
so that meeting has been cancelled.

The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
