Main Street, the closest proximate neighbor to the proposed future site of the Veteran's Memorial. We would like to express our sµpport for the Memorial's mission and to state our willingness to be good and thoughtful neighbors. In addition, we want to express our concern for the scale, size and design of the project. After reviewing the letter sent to you by Larry Cannon, our concerns fall along similar lines to those he expressed . Our short summary is: -the design of the space and sculpture are inconsistent with the mid century brutalist architecture of the Civic Center -the height of the walls obstruct and overwhelm already existing buildings -the footprint takes over current greenspace and converts much of the park to concrete, bringing up environmental impact concerns -the height of the sculpture is out of scale with the current architecture which emphasizes low, horizontal lines We would be pleased to share the future and our corner of the Civic Center lawn with the Veteran's Memorial and we are committed to helping that to become a reality. Our hope is that the Town and the Veterans can find a more appropriate scale for their design that creates a harmonious balance within the current architectural environment. When we worked on re-designing the old library into NUMU, we held ourselves, and so did the Town, to the same high standard. Sincerely, Lisa Coscino Executive Director 0 -··----·---------- Engaging community at the intersection of art, history and education through innovative, locally connected and globally relevant exhibits , programs and experiences. 408 .354 .2646 I www.NUMUlosgatos .org 1 Cindie Gonzales From: Sent: To: Subject: Dear Planning Commission, Jan Schwartz <jso urhilltop@gmail.com > Thursday, November 30, 2017 10:24 PM Planning Ve teran 's memorial I fully support the Veterans in their plan and de sire to create a meaningful memorial in the town park. I feel the current proposal is out of proportion with the space provided , and would like to see less concrete eating up the beautiful lawn green space. I would also like the wall to be lower, so that the memorial creates a welcoming environment rather than a walled-off area. These changes would be more in keeping with the open plan of the town plaza . Thank you, Jan Schwartz 15966 Cerro Vista Dr. Los Gatos CA 95032 1 This Page Intentionally Left Blank
