Main Street Los Gatos, CA 95030 ● 408-354-6832 www.losgatosca.gov TOWN OF LOS GATOS COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: 05/07/2019 ITEM NO: 10 DATE: APRIL 29, 2019 TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL FROM: LAUREL PREVETTI, TOWN MANAGER SUBJECT: PROVIDE DIRECTION ON POTENTIAL AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN’S NEWSRACK REGULATIONS RECOMMENDATION: Provide direction on potential amendments to the Town’s newsrack regulations. BACKGROUND: In May 2011, The Town Council adopted Ordinance 2196 (Attachment 1) which amended the Town’s newsrack regulations. The Mayor requested that this matter be placed on this Town Council agenda. DISCUSSION: Attachment 1 contains the current newsrack ordinance which is located in Chapter 23 of the Town Code. Ordinance 2196 created revised newsrack requirements and a special newsrack district for the Downtown C-2 commercial area. The special newsrack district requires special design, placement, and other standards for newsracks. The Mayor would like the Town Council to consider expanding the special newsrack district requirements to all other areas of the Town. Staff will be available at the meeting to answer questions and looks forward to receiving direction on potential amendments to the Town’s newsrack regulations. Based on the Town Council’s direction, staff would prepare potential amendments to the newsrack regulations that would then be considered by the Planning Commission and Town Council. ALTERNATIVES: Alternatively, the Council may: 1. Refer the matter to the Policy Committee; or 2. Direct staff to leave the newsrack regulations unchanged. Attachment: 1. Ordinance 2196
