TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: 05/07/2019
ITEM NO: 10
DATE: APRIL 29, 2019
TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL
FROM: LAUREL PREVETTI, TOWN MANAGER
SUBJECT: PROVIDE DIRECTION ON POTENTIAL AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN’S
NEWSRACK REGULATIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
Provide direction on potential amendments to the Town’s newsrack regulations.
BACKGROUND:
In May 2011, The Town Council adopted Ordinance 2196 (Attachment 1) which amended
the Town’s newsrack regulations.
The Mayor requested that this matter be placed on this Town Council agenda.
DISCUSSION:
Attachment 1 contains the current newsrack ordinance which is located in Chapter 23 of the
Town Code. Ordinance 2196 created revised newsrack requirements and a special newsrack
district for the Downtown C-2 commercial area. The special newsrack district requires special
design, placement, and other standards for newsracks. The Mayor would like the Town Council
to consider expanding the special newsrack district requirements to all other areas of the Town.
Staff will be available at the meeting to answer questions and looks forward to receiving
direction on potential amendments to the Town’s newsrack regulations.
