Attachment 5 May 16, 2019 Attention: Los Gatos Town Council, 110 East Main Street. Los Gatos, CA, 95030 Dear Council Members, New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is submitting for your consideration, a request for $20,000 from the Town’s 2019/20 Proposed Operating Budget Surplus Fund account. The funds will be used to support development costs for new and expanded programs scheduled for roll out late summer. Specifically, NUMU is changing the layout of the lower level floor to make room for more art making, art instruction, and art and history education. New and expanded MakerSpace and Studio spaces are being created to offer classes, workshops and drop-in/self-directed programs for children/youth and adults. One of the primary goals of this undertaking is to offer more fee-based/revenue generating programs that are becoming increasingly popular with our members and by the wider community. By re-configuring the use of our lower floor area, we feel we will be able to adjust our own operating budget goals and business model to take advantage of new revenue generating opportunities. We are also working towards making the museum’s Art and History Collection, and by extension, Los Gatos history, more accessible to the community. Three projects are planned to achieve this goal: cataloging the NUMU Collections of over 3,000 artifacts in a digital archive that is free and available to anyone with Internet access; creating a Prep and Demonstration Lab - a designated space to permanently display items from the Collections and, developing a series of year-round related support and educational programs in partnership with area historians, art conservationists and academics. The programs that will be developed as a result of the archived Collection and new Collections Prep and Demo Lab will also provide new fee-based programs and experiences to members and visitors. Securing seed funding for these exciting new initiatives, all of which support NUMU’s mission of engaging the community at the intersection of art, history and education through locally connected and globally relevant exhibits, programs and experiences, will help us prepare the lower floor space for new programs that will be introduced at a community event at NUMU in September. Also of note, we are preparing a grant application (due in July and if awarded, funds become available in December 2020) offered by the County Board of Supervisors, and administered by the Parks and Recreation Department. The Historic Grant Program is a new/one-time-only program that supports projects that acknowledge and celebrate our regions untold stories and histories. If we receive a grant award from this program, we will be able build on the seed funding support awarded by The Town of Los Gatos through its Surplus Fund, and move forward in earnest with the Collections and Los Gatos History-related projects described above. Attached are support materials for your review: • Draft budget estimate for one-time costs associated with the expansion of MakerSpace and Studio programs. Does not include shipping and labor costs. • Concept illustrations of the lower floor MakerSpace, Community Space and Collections Prep and Demo Lab. • Program flyers and materials of NUMU’s fee-based hands-on artmaking programs and classes for kids and adults. More revenue generating programs like these are being developed and will be announced in our September community event. An updated listing of workshops and classes can also be found on the NUMU website. On behalf of the NUMU Board of Directors and staff, thank you for your time and consideration. Of course, I would be more than happy to answer questions and provide additional information. If you wish to drop by the museum and take a walk through the space, that would be terrific. We can also tour the Collections Room, if you’re interested. Everyone loves taking a peek into the Collections Room :) With appreciation, Maureen Cappon-Javey Executive Director Item Qty Cost Tax Total Costs Walls + Doors + Lighting $24,008 Temporary Walls 3.6'wx8'h 8 $600 $55 $5,238 Accordion Wall (MakerSpace)1 $1,000 $91 $1,091 Glass Doors Collection Lab 2 $7,500 $684 $16,369 Track Lighting 20 $60 $5 $1,310 Materials/Furnishings Meeting Room $5,238 Short Throw Projector 1 $3,000 $274 $3,274 Chairs 12 $150 $14 $1,964 MakerSpace Kids + Adults $5,238 Kids Activity Tables 4 $300.00 $27.38 $1,310 Kids Stackable Chairs (6pack)2 $200.00 $18.25 $437 Portable Sink 1 $1,200.00 $109.50 $1,310 Workshop Table (6' Seville Classics Work Benches)4 $350.00 $31.94 $1,528 Workshop Stools (ULine 24" Hardboard)15 $40.00 $3.65 $655 Collections Lab $8,757 Demo Table (6' Seville Classics Work Benches)2 $250.00 $22.81 $546 Storage Cabinets (Seville Classics Rolling Cabinet Workbench)2 $325.00 $29.66 $709 Display Case 76.5"h x 48"w 1 $1,400.00 $127.75 $1,528 Flat Files (6) 4 $1,000.00 $91.25 $4,365 Flat File Base (3)2 $200.00 $18.25 $437 Shop Stools (ULine 24" Hardboard)10 $40.00 $3.65 $437 Wire rack Shelving (48"w x 24"d x 96"h)3 $225.00 $20.53 $737 Programs Storage $737 Wire rack Shelving (48"w x 24"d x 96"h)3 $225.00 $20.53 $737 Community Space $3,056 Couch 1 $1,000.00 $91.25 $1,091 Wall Mounted Display Unit 3'w x 4'h 3 $600.00 $54.75 $1,964 Folding Chairs 40 $29.99 $2.74 $1,309 Kitchen $2,946 Item Qty Cost Tax Total Costs dishwasher 1 $800.00 $73.00 $873 food prep table 1 $200.00 $18.25 $218 catering fridge 1 $1,700.00 $155.13 $1,855 Total $49,979 Summer / Fall 2019 408.354.2646 | 106 E.
