SUBJECT: ACCEPT A LIBRARY SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY ACT (LSTA) GRANT IN
THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
A. AUTHORIZE A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO
RECOGNIZE RECEIPT AND USE OF GRANT FUNDS.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Council accept a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant in the
amount of $5,000 from the California State Library and approve expenditures for bilingual
children’s materials reimbursable by these grant funds.
BACKGROUND:
The Library has been successful in obtaining a $5,000 LSTA grant administered by the California
State Library for the purchase of bilingual children’s books and materials. This grant is awarded
on a reimbursement basis after providing receipts showing expenditures to the California State
Library.
Utilizing these grant funds, the Library will be purchasing bilingual picture books in foreign
languages most requested by Library patrons. These will include but not be limited to
Spanish/English, Russian/English, Chinese/English, and Korean/English. The funds provided
through the grant will allow for the purchase of approximately 200 to 250 books.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Expenditures in the amount of $5,000 from account 7801-61172, Library Operating Grants;
Youth Collections, and will be reimbursed by grant funding deposited to account 7801 -43343,
Library Operating Grants; Grant Revenue. .
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
