The older adult community in Los Gatos currently has access to a variety of programs provided by the Town and other
community partnerships and organizations, including a 55+ recreation program through the LosGatos Saratoga Recreation
Community Center, nutrition and wellness resources through Live Oak Senior Nutrition Center and Adult Day Services, and
residential care and retirement communities that offer specialized programs. The Town also prov ides resources for seniors
living in Los Gatos on the Town website. The Townappointed AgeFriendly Task Force has identified the following key work
plan items::
• A collaborative of community partners to offer agefriendly and inclusive social events and communitywide dances.
• Emergency preparedness lectures and demonstrations specific to older adults. We will work with community partners to
provide access and contributions of emergency supply kits.
• We will produce an infographic resource describing available community services for all residents. These will be available at
the Town Departments including the Library, Police Department as well as local community centers.
• We will explore a public/private partnership to offer a variety of ondemand transportation options for older adults.

AgeFriendly Task Force Recommendations
The Town of Los Gatos appointed an Age Friendly Task Force to analyze focus group data from the Santa Clara County Center
for Age Friendly Excellence (CAFÉ) to create recommendations for projects to explore to address the gap in services to make
the Town more agefriendly:
A collaborative of community partners to offer agefriendly and inclusive social events and communitywide dances.
• This stemmed from the data to address the need for more social gathering spaces and opportunities for seniors, especially
those facing isolation. Many of our community organizations already hold dances but there could be improved coordination,
marketing and methods for prov iding transportation to attend events.
Emergency preparedness lectures and demonstrations specific to older adults. We will work with community partners to
provide access and contributions of emergency supply kits.
• The data showed that many seniors were not aware of services provided by the County Fire and Los GatosMonte Sereno
Police Departments, and that more emergency preparedness training for residents should be explored. We intend to host
ev ents specifically geared for older adults to offer education and all materials and supplies needed in case of an emergency
like an earthquake.
We will produce an infographic resource describing available community services for all residents. These will be available at
the Town Departments including the Library, Police Department as well as local community centers.
• We will create a convenient handout that all local community agencies will provide to residents, listing available services
such as, housing resources, food pantries, and other social services. The infographic will include contact information and
represented agencies will play a role in keeping it up to date.
We will explore a public/private partnership to offer a variety of ondemand transportation options for older adults.
• The data indicated the need for more transportation options for seniors and a way to collaborate with other public and
private agencies or ridesharing agencies, to provide that to the Town residents. This is a regional challenge and we will be
working with our partners in neighboring cities and Santa Clara County to come up with a regional solution.
6) Crosssectoral collaboration
6) Collaboration intersectoriel
What mechanisms have you/are you planning to put in place to facilitate collaborative planning and implementation
between different departments of the local administration and across sectors?
Quels sont les mécanismes que vous avez ou que vous projetez de mettre en place pour faciliter la planification et la
mise en œuvre collaborative entre les différents départements de votre administration locale et à travers d’autre

The Town of Los Gatos collaborated with the Santa Clara County Department of Aging and Adult Services to be a part of the
Countywide AgeFriendly initiative. With help from the County, the Town also partnered with the Center for Age Friendly
Ex cellence (CAFE), the technical assistant partner who assists all cities within the County, on becoming agefriendly. The Town
Council is responsible for prov iding direction with respect to implementing the priorities relating to the agefriendly
recommendations provided by the Age Friendly Task Force. Local community organizations as well as the Town Library and
Police Department, will also play a role in meeting the Town’s agefriendly goals. Our work will continue into the future, guided
by the Town Community and Senior Services Commission, who works together with the Town Council, Town Manager's Office
and CAFE.

The Town of Los Gatos was excited about joining the S anta Clara Countywide initiative for each community to become
involved in a twoyear process to better understand and assess the needs of our older adults, and work with community
partners to develop a variety of programs and services. We learned a lot through this process and there is a new awareness
of the needs of our older adult population, among elected officials. We want this effort to be guided by our seniors and we’re
ex cited about collaborating with other cities in the County. The Town of Los Gatos is committed to providing serv ices for all of
the residents and becoming an agefriendly Town prov ides an opportunity to seek additional funding and partnerships to
improve services.
How do you hope to contribute to the Global Network?
Comment espérezvous contribuer au réseau?

The Silicon Valley booming economy has placed economic stress on older adults with fixed incomes. We intend to develop
collaborative and creative ways to assist older persons to age in community and improv e quality of life, by making our Town
more agefriendly . We hope to model and share ex amples of effectiv e and functional Townstaff and community
collaborations.
The Town of Los Gatos has a rich history of agriculture, forestry and mining, and works hard to preserv e local knowledge by
involving older adults. For example, we intend to share the expertise of a recently created app, where visitors can engage in a
guided tour of local historical site within Town. This app was created and narrated by local older adults, who are actively
involved in Town local history.
Overall, the Town of Los Gatos will share the outcomes of the agefriendly projects with the Global Network as well as work
with neighboring communities to share resources, information on the agefriendly process, and explore crosscollaborative
opportunities.
