SUBJECT: ADOPT AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS REQUIRING THE
LICENSURE OF TOBACCO RETAILERS AND ADDING SECTION 18.60.020 TO
THE TOWN CODE OF LOS GATOS ENTITLED PERMITS FOR RETAILERS OF
TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND/OR ELECTRONIC SMOKING DEVICES
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Ordinance that was introduced at the Town Council meeting of May 2, 2016, adding
Section 18.60.020 to the Town Code to require permits for retailers of tobacco products.
BACKGROUND:
At its May 2, 2017 meeting, the Town Council voted 4-0 to approve the introduction and first
reading adding Section 18.60.020 to the Town Code to require permits for retailers of tobacco
products.
DISCUSSION:
If adopted, the Ordinance (Attachment 1), would take effect in January 1, 2018. Staff will
coordinate with the County and businesses regarding the change in the law.
