ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LAS GATOS PROHIBITING THE USE OF
NON - MOTOR- DRIVEN VEHICLES TO CARRY PASSENGERS FOR HIRE
The Town Council hereby ORDAINS:
SECTION 1.
The Council hereby finds that the use of non -motor- driven vehicles,
such as bicycles or rickshaws, to carry passengers for hire would be contrary
to the general welfare of the Town, because such vehicles would (1) create an
unreasonable safety hazard to the passengers, the driver, and others, and (2)
increase traffic congestion.
SECTION 2.
Section 29 -3.5 is added to the Town Code as follows:
"The use of any vehicle other than a taxicab as defined in Section
29 -1 to carry passengers for hire shall be an infraction and a public nuisance.
Each act of carrying a passenger for hire in a prohibited vehicle shall con-
stitute a separate violation."
SECTION 3.
This ordinance takes effect 30 days after the date it is adopted.
Within 15 days after this ordinance is adopted, the Town Clerk shall cause it
to be published once in a newspaper of general circulation published and cir-
culated in the Town.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Town Council
of the Town of Los Gatos on May 3rd, 1982 and adopted by the
following vote as an ordinance of the Town of Los Gatos at a regular meeting
of the Town Council on May 17th 1982
