Parks Commission Safety Evaluation: Focused Priority for calendar year 2016
Parks are generally in good shape, especially Oak Meadow and Creekside Sports Parks that are
heavily used
Bachman Park had lowest rating with overall score of 2.3 out of 5 with needs in pathways, turf,
and picnic areas
Novitiate showed next level of overall needs with overall score of 2.8 out of 5 with need in
unpaved pathways and area of shrubs and trees
Several parks demonstrated that retaining walls need attention to reinforce stability
Belgatos Park showed needs in areas of turf condition and condition of unpaved paths, although
park rated well in other categories
Commission acknowledges additional needs may exist that are beyond scope of their
assessment, including playground safety needs and irrigation needs
Although Los Gatos Creek Trail not a part of evaluation, Commission noted concerns, especially
around trail usage and courtesies.
Transportation and Parking Commission
Congestion Relief: This should be a continued focus with investments to reduce congestion.
Projects identified in the Capital list include Traffic Signal Upgrade Project and Cut Through
Traffic Project. Additional opportunities will arise from Measure B and Council should plan
strategically to position the Town to take advantage of these opportunities.
Traffic around Schools: With progress made through the study on Traffic Around Schools
completed this year, Commission recommends that the focus incorporate capital projects
associated with the study, including a financial commitment of $250,000 to meet needs and
provide matching funds for other opportunities
Community Transit: With VTA exploring their Next Network, Commission anticipates that the
Town will be left with a gap to fill. Commission has made significant strides in exploring
opportunities to fill this gap and believes the Town’s aging and young populations would benefit
from and take advantage of a well-designed community transit solution.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission
Commission identified two priorities for Council consideration:
o Bicycle and Pedestrian Investments: The Commission recommends budgeting $250,000
annually that can be used to meet identified needs and be used as matching funds for
grants. The Commission will provide specific recommendations for projects through
staff in the annual Capital Improvement Program.
o Measure B: Funding will be competitive, requiring significant work for the Town to
obtain any funding. The Town should position itself to take advantage of Measure B
funding, including allocating resources for project studies and early design such that the
Town has projects that are “shovel ready.”
Arts and Culture Commission
Explore funding options for public art.
