Attachment 13December 19, 2017
Dear Mayor and Council,
We worked diligently on our 26 Alpine neighborhood outreach program. I've summarized
the results below and attached some email communications to demonstrate our success and
commitment to connect with neighbors.
We sent two email correspondences to 37 neighbors on October 1 and October 24, 2017
{This email group is an active neighborhood group that worked together to achieve permit
parking on Alpine Ave) and we had multiple email communications with the Gieselman's
and Pam Nerney. Although we tried, and had a positive outcome with the Kronk's, we were
unsuccessful scheduling a face-to-face .meeting Pam Nerney and the Gieselman's (see emails
below).
We are proud to report that, in addition to the previous 5 letters of neighbor support, and
due to our our strong neighborhood outreach, we received support from eight neighbors:
Diane Kronk, Michael Kronk, Jillian Kronk. Phil Brannon, Melanie Brannon, Amy McCafferty
and John and Pricillia (134 Alpine).
Outreach Letter:
We are Toby and Susan Corey, your recent former neighbors from 38 Alpine Ave. We know
most of you, but if we haven't had the pleasure of meeting we wanted to formally introduce
ourselves. A little background info about us: We have been living in Los Gatos since 1992,
initially on Apple Blossom Lane then Johnson Avenue and for the last 15 years at 38 Alpine
Ave until we recently sold in July 2016. Our two daughters, Alexandra and Jordan, attended
Van .Meter, Fisher Middle School and both graduated from Los Gatos High School. They've
gone on to graduate from University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of California,
Santa Barbara.
Our oldest daughter, Alexandra, recently got married and she and her husband bought a
home in Los Gatos. They are expecting their 1st baby, a boy soon and we are excited to be
grandparents for the firs time. Our youngest, Jordan, lives in the LA area. We love our
Alpine neighborhood and we are excited to build our retirement home.
As you know, we purchased the lot at 26 Alpine Avenue a few years ago and excited to build
our retirement home there. The design for our new home is smaller then our previous
Alpine home and is complimentary to the site and the neighborhood community.
We are presenting to the Town Council in early November. If you are interested, I'd like to
meet with you to review the project and answer any questions that you might have. Please
drop me an email and we can schedule a time to meet (toby.corey@gmail.com).
Warm regards,
Toby and Susan Corey

Hi Toby and Susan,
My husband Ed and I are the new owners of 19 Alpine. We are excited to remodel the
property and appreciate the challenges you've been facing on your project. Sometimes
remodeling projects can take time to get approved.
We won't make the town council meeting but wish you the best ofluck to get your plans
approved.
Thank you for reaching out.

Hi Susan-We met when I was out walking Chester, my Lab. We have passed those pillars
twice a day for 34 years and they always make me smile -it feels like the entrance to a really
special neighborhood. It's wonderful to read that they will continue to do so -Good on you

Jon,
Hope this email finds you and your family well. I wanted to follow-up on a several'issues:
1. I sent an official email to the town planning group this week letting them know that we will not be using
tie-backs that cross over or under 38 Alpine Ave. I met with Jocelyn last week and she explained that i
should send an official email for the record.
2. We hired a 2nd arborist to evaluate if construction would negatively impact Oak Tree #9. He dug a 30
foot long trench one foot inside where the retaining wall/side of the home will be set to evaluate the root
structure and saftey. "The trench revealed that there were no significant roots at all in the areas of the
proposed construction. At this distance there is no root activity, therefore the proposed excavation will have
no negative effects on Oak Tree #9." We will also continuously monitor Oak Tree #9 through-out
construction. We will be submitting the report and recommendation to the town in the near future when it's
been finalized.
3. We are preparing a description of how we will construct the retaining wall/side of the home to ensure
hillside stability and safety. The Geotechnical Engineer (Pollack) with peer review from the
town geotechnical engineer, concluded that the hillside will be more stable with the construction the new
home. Happy to discuss with you ifyou'd like to meet.
4. We are preparing a landscape plan to provide additional screening you identified in a previous letter to
the town.
Let me know if you'd like to meet and discuss any issues or concerns. i'd be happy to also discuss the
advantages of our home design as well. We iterated through many designs and i'd be happy to discuss that
process, trade-offs and thinking that went into where we ended up. Best regards, toby
