Thank you for sending this information. Our thoughts are that option B would be the best course of
action. The increase in parking spaces is a huge plus, and the flow of traffic moving only one direction
seems logical.

Hi Everyone -
As many of you are aware, the Town is going to conduct a pilot programs this summer on N. Santa Cruz
Avenue. Attached are the documents outlining 3 proposals. The pilot program will take place from July
through October. Council will decide on one of these options at their next meeting, Tuesday, January 15
at 7pm.
We are excited that the Town is trying to address some of the issues downtown! We encourage you to
review the proposals and offer your input. Ideally, you will consider attending the Council meeting and
offer your opinion. If you cannot attend, please provide us with a written statement by Monday at 5pm,
which we will forward to Council by Tuesday at noon, the deadline for written communication.
Undoubtedly, you will have some questions, so feel free to stop by our office on Monday, January 14
from 9-10am and we will have a Q&A session.
Thank you.

Town Council,
I know you will be considering the one-way road closure this summer. I think you need to
consider only Option A with no dedicated bike lane headed in the northbound direction and
continuing the one-way street all the way to W. Main Street. This is not an option being
presented, but it is important that this one-way street trial be a true one-way street.
I believe you will be encouraging a potential “distracted driver” accident by allowing bike traffic
to move north in the opposite direction on a one-way street. It is unnecessary and
unproductive to test the end product of making North Santa Cruz Avenue one-way south if you
allow northbound traffic; a one-way street is one way.
I also feel you have cut your one-way street trial short by not continuing the one-way street all
the way to W. Main Street. Perhaps this is to make the street closure easier for traffic control,
but a significant benefit of the one-way street is to keep the flow of traffic moving. It seems
that you are potentially setting this trial up for failure if you cannot keep traffic moving into
downtown and thru downtown.
By allowing the last block to become 2-way traffic you will reduce the speed or flow of traffic
south, thus reducing the flow of traffic on all of North Santa Cruz Avenue. This defeats the
purpose of moving traffic thru downtown at a steady pace on a one-way street. If there is
anyway to help alleviate our summer traffic you need to keep the flow of traffic moving south,
which means south all the way to the freeway. If you don’t continue the one-way street to W.
Main Street you might create a larger problem in the downtown during the height of the
“beach traffic.
The other significant benefit is the revitalization of our downtown CBD. The one-way street will
ultimately add parking and allow for wider sidewalks creating a much more pedestrian friendly
experience. Our retail establishments will have more area for outdoor displays and our
restaurants will be able to offer outdoor dining. All of this is necessary and critical for Los Gatos
to compete with other towns and other developments.
Please realize that the Los Gatos downtown business owners and all of the Towns residents
need your help, now. Santana Row, Campbell and soon the North 40 development have taken
a large share of our retail and restaurant patrons. The Town has become gridlocked in the
summer hurting our downtown business and local resident s. Los Gatos needs a change; it’s
easy to say revitalization, but it’s hard to make it happen. Bold decisions need to be made, and
you are the ones to make those decisions.
Make this one-way street a viable test, extend the parameters from Bachman Avenue to W.
Main Street, remove the northbound bike lane and encourage all our business to utilize the
benefit of the one-way street to promote shopping and dining. Make the decision and bring
Downtown Los Gatos back to being the destination spot in all the South Bay, lets not take a
second seat to Campbell, Santa Row or any other new development anymore.
